Finding Amdir

Bestowal dialogue

'Thank you for your aid, <name>. My kindred and I were driven from the Bounds of the Shire by the Nazgûl of Mordor. They pursued us eastward and slew many of us. It was my goal to join Amdir, but I have heard rumour of his fate in Archet. They say he was stabbed with a morgul-knife and led off by some evil men -- the ones who lent the Blackwolds aid. There are few left now with power over such wounds, and those that I know of dwell some distance from here. We must find Amdir, and quickly, if we are to save him.
'He is likely being held by the Blackwolds somewhere in the Chetwood. We must find a way to enter their lair and free him, but first we must find them. Speak with Constable Underhill...he may be of help. You can usually find him outside, near The Comb and Wattle.
'Once you have learned of the Blackwolds' lair and believe you can gain entry, return to me. Hurry, before it is too late.'

Background

The stranger that summoned you was a kinsman of Amdir who is seeking the missing Ranger.

Objective 1

Constable Underhill can be found outside The Comb and Wattle Inn in Comb.
Toradan has asked you to speak with Constable Underhill to learn ways of finding the Blackwolds' hideout. He is certain Amdir will be found among them.
Toradan: 'You should speak with Constable Underhill near The Comb and Wattle. He may have some thoughts on how to discover the Blackwolds' hideout.'
Constable Underhill: 'Toradan sent you, did he? It's good to have the Hero of Archet on our side!' The hobbit lowers his voice. 'There's still a Blackwold agent in town. We think he's trying to rebuild the band from among the local ruffians and bullies. We need proof though. A letter or parchment would do, if it came from the agent himself.
'Many of the brigands hole up in Chetwood. Follow the road east, until you come to the guard-house, where Constable Wren is stationed. From there, head north and look for the brigands' watchfires scattered through the wood. Search their packs for signs of their summons.
'Let me know right away if you find anything... we need to know what they're up to!'

Objective 2

  • Search a Blackwold recruit's pack
Many of the scattered Blackwolds dwell in the hills east of Combe.
Following Toradan's advice, you spoke with Constable Underhill about the Blackwold brigands. The hobbit constable suggests that you search amongst the campfires of the Blackwolds to the east of Combe for one of the brigand agent's letters.
Constable Underhill: 'The Blackwolds have taken up residence in the Chetwood to the east. You had best begin your search there.'
You discovered a letter

Objective 3

Constable Underhill awaits your return near Combe centre, outside The Comb and Wattle Inn.
Searching through a pack found near a small encampment of Blackwolds, you found a letter from the Blackwold agent. You should return to Constable Underhill with the letter.
Constable Underhill: 'Hallo! What's this? Ellie Cutleaf! Well, I should have guessed. She's smart and disreputable, by all accounts... and she's just the sort who might led us to the Blackwold's agent.
'She won't lead you to this Amdir fellow, I don't think, but it's a start. We must gain access to the leader somehow. He'll have the answers we seek.'

An Urgent Summons

Bestowal dialogue

'The man who came through the village -- he reminded me of Amdir in his behaviour -- said he was looking for "the Hero of Archet." I can only assume that he spoke of you!
'He said the matter was most urgent, and that if I saw you, I was to direct you to The Comb and Wattle Inn, where he will be waiting for you. The Comb and Wattle is in the centre of Combe to the south.
'He seemed most grim to me. I would travel to Combe immediately and speak with the innkeeper, Lizbeth Honeymeade. She should know where to find this man.'

Background

A stranger to Archet left an urgent message for "the Hero of Archet", requesting an audience.

Objective 1

Lizbeth Honeymeade is the proprietor of The Comb and Wattle Inn in Combe, south of Archet.
Jon Brackenbrook said you were to meet the grim stranger in Combe. He recommended that you speak with the innkeeper, Lizbeth Honeymeade, who can tell you what room the stranger is staying in.
Jon Brackenbrook: 'Lizbeth runs a fine establishment in Combe. Head there now and speak with her.'
Lizbeth Honeymeade: 'Oh my. Look here, a real live hero! It's not often we get such respectable folk through here.
'My, how my tongue runs on! Toradan told me to sent you upstairs to his room as soon as you arrived. The stairs are across the room there, and Toradan's is the door at the end of the hall. He said you shouldn't delay none.'

Objective 2

Toradan's room is at the end of the hall at the top of the stairs across the common room.
You have come to The Comb and Wattle Inn, as instructed, and spoken to the proprietor. Lizbeth Honeymeade told you that the man who sent you the message, Toradan, is waiting for you in his room.
Lizbeth Honeymeade: 'Keep it quiet that I have one of them Norhtmen here. The Comb and Wattle is normally a nice place.'
Toradan: 'The Hero of Archet, I suppose? I am pleased to finally meet you. I am sorry for the cryptic summons, but I dared not betray my whereabouts to just anyone.
'There is much we need to discuss. Will you hear me?'

Rurik Fennel, Locksmith

Bestowal dialogue

'Rurik is a locksmith here in Combe. You should show him that receipt and ask him why the brigands appear to be common patrons of his.
'It seems odd that Rurik would be involved, he's a quiet man who keeps to himself mostly. Still we need to investigate every lead carefully.
'You should find him outside his home on the road that runs south past The Comb and Wattle Inn.'

Background

After discovering a letter on the brigand supervisor at Old Bauman's farm, you delivered it to Constable Sageford to discover the identity of "R.F." is Rurik Fennel a locksmith in Combe. Sageford wants you to confront Rurik about his possible involvement with the Blackwolds.

Objective 1

Rurik Fennel, a local locksmith, lives on the road that runs south past The Comb and Wattle Inn in Combe.
Constable Sageford wants you to confront Rurik Fennel of the coincidences surrounding the Blackwold brigands and his name and initials appearing on their crates and letters they carry.
Constable Sageford: 'Make your way down the road that runs south past The Comb and Wattle Inn and confront Rurik about the letter and the strongbox you found.'
Rurik Fennel: 'Yes, my name is Rurik. Yes, I'm a locksmith. What is this about? One of my strongboxes -- recovered from a brigand? -- and a letter?
'I see...
'I had hoped that I saw the last of the Brigands. You must understand, I did not willingly help them. My business is keeping things locked away, so I do not often ask question of my customers.
'I filled an order for twenty strongboxes and upon completion was visited by the Blackwolds. One, a tough fellow, took my master key and threatened my life if I talked. One of the others with him called him Applewood.
'Please, tell the Constable that any aid was unwilling, and I only stayed silent because I feared for my life.'

Objective 2

Constable Sageford awaits news of Rurik's involvement near the centre of Combe.
Rurik Fennel appears to have been an unwitting and bullied pawn of the Blackwold.
Rurik Fennel: 'Please tell Constable Sageford that I did not aid the brigands purposefully. I do not know who Applewood is, but he has the master key to the strongboxes.'
Constable Sageford: 'While this doesn't help us get this box open and the valuables returned, it does speak well of Rurik. I feel badly that he felt as though we could not protect him, but with what happened to Archet, I understand his hesitation.
'Let me think a moment on the name he gave us. Scouts are coming and going at all times... one may have mentioned seeing this Applewood.'

On to Staddle

Bestowal dialogue

'Staddle is a tranquil place, or normally so. Recently however, the guards and constables have been fearful of the Midgewater Marsh and the tall-folk moving into ruins in the south.
'If you continue following the road to the south, you'll find Staddle centre. Talk to Watcher Redweed there and tell them that I sent you on to help!'

Background

Lolo Wendingway mentioned that the people of Staddle are dealing with some peculiar goings-on and told you to visit Watcher Redweed for more information.

Objective 1

Watcher Redweed can be found in Staddle centre.
Lolo Wendingway advised you to seek out Watcher Redweed to help out with troubles brewing in the surrounding areas.
Watcher Redweed: 'Hullo there! You've come from Lolo, have you?
'You've come to the right place then friend. There is much happening around Staddle that needs attention and there are too few guards and constables to reach them all.'

Into Bree

Bestowal dialogue

'You've been a big help to me, <name>. Something about you tells me you could be a great help to many. If you are looking to further your charitable nature, you may want to speak with Second-watcher Heathstraw in Bree-town.
'Heathstraw is very much in the know of problems facing Bree. What with the refugees coming from the south and all the whispers of the rising dark, I think he's got a fair share of details to keep track of, poor fellow.
'You can find him through the Staddle-gate of Bree standing near the Boar Fountain in the Market Square.'

Background

Lolo Wendingway mentioned that Bree-town is aflutter with rumours of shadows growing and refugees pouring in from the south. He told you to seek out Second-watcher Heathstraw if you were looking to continue your assistance of Bree-land.

Objective 1

Second-watcher Heathstraw can be found near the Boar Fountain in the centre of the Market Square in Bree-town.
Lolo Wendingway mentioned that Second-watcher Heathstraw may have some knowledge of people needing things done throughout Bree.
Second-watcher Heathstraw: 'Lolo? Used to come here often, he did. Good stout little fellow, good barker and good seller he is. Strange for a Hobbit it's true, but then again they say that most Hobbits living 'round here is queer.
'His information is correct though, Bree's seen its share of new blood recently, and not all have been of your quality.'
'If you need work, I am certain that I can find you something.'

Den of Wolves

Bestowal dialogue

'Combe has always relied on this lumber camp for her livelihood, and now the people of Archet will be relying on us to supply the wood to rebuild their town, I expect. There's no shortage of work, that much is certain!
'We'll need to start taking down some of the trees to the north-east, along the cliffs, but there's a wolf-den up that way that endangers our workers!
'Could you deal with those wolves for me? It's not safe to chop down trees near there, and I'm afraid we might lose some of our best loggers. Follow the cliff wall. You'll see the wolves, or they'll see you.'

Background

Woodcutters from Combe moving further into the Chetwood in search of quality lumber are seeking protection from the local wildlife.

Objective 1

The wolf-den is set in the cliff wall north-east of the lumber camp.
Woodcutter Taylor Green is concerned that the wolves roaming the woods to the north-east may be a threat to the woodcutters and has asked you to cull their numbers.
Taylor Green: 'The wolf-den is north-east of here. Just follow th bend of the cliff wall, and you'll see it. It's not far.'

Objective 2

Woodcutter Taylor Green waits at the lumber camp to the south-west, north of the guard-house.
As Woodcutter Green requested, you put the fear of Men into the wolves of the Chetwood. He will be pleased to hear of your success.
Taylor Green: 'You took care of the wolves! That will make harvesting the trees by that den much safer. Rebuilding the burned buildings in Archet will require more wood than we have, and that's only one village!
'I don't think the Blackwolds have the numbers to try anything funny around Combe, but there's still Staddle. Too many raids, and we'll need to cut down the whole Chetwood to make the repairs!'

Builder Earur

Bestowal dialogue

'Working with wood has always been my trade, so I thought to put my hands to the rebuilding of Archet. I had loaded up my tools and set out, when suddenly this mad boar came out of nowhere and overturned my cart!
'It was all my son Borin and I could do to make it here to Archet, and we had to leave the tools in the wreckage of the cart! If you head south to the gate that leads to Combe, you might be able to recover my toolbox. I'd really appreciate it, and the folk of Archet are sure to be better for it as well -- the sooner I can get started, the sooner this town will be back to the way it was!
'Watch out for that boar, though. You might be able to get my toolbox without attracting his attention, but you'd need more luck than I have to manage it!'

Background

Builder Earur has asked you to recover the tools he lost when a mad boar overturned his cart on the road south of Archet.

Objective 1

Builder Earur's cart was overturned south of Archet, near the gate to Combe. Builder Earur is in Archet, north of the overturned cart.
Builder Earur has asked you to recover the toolbox he left in the wreckage of his cart, overturned by a mad boar south of Archet.
Builder Earur: 'I'd really appreciate it if you could recover the toolbox from the wreckage of my cart. It's south of Archet, near the gate to Combe, but be careful -- that mad boar might still be nearby!'
Collected Builder Earur's toolbox

Objective 2

Builder Earur's cart was overturned south of Archet, near the gate to Combe. Builder Earur is in Archet, north of the overturned cart.
Builder Earur has asked you to recover the toolbox he left in the wreckage of his cart, overturned by a mad boar south of Archet.
Builder Earur: 'You have my thanks, <name> -- now Eorin and I can get to work rebuilding this town. Take these coins for your trouble.'

Pickthorn's Treasure

Bestowal dialogue

'Let me just...hmmm...find the right page. Ah! Here we go. I see, I see. So, you stand in the field of stumps and...hmmm...take this many paces...and then that many strides...of course! I remember! The Hanging Tree was the south-east-most tree in that bunch. It was standing there closest to the Staddle Falls!
'Now just...hmmm...go back to that Stump field and you'll find that thing you wanted. What was it you wanted, again? You were digging for something, right? Here, take this pickaxe, it'll make it easier to dig. Least I could do, you finding my ledger!'

Background

Mason Thorne's ledger revealed the location of the old Hanging Tree. Now you can search for Ted Pickthorn's treasure.

Objective 1

The southeasternmost stump in the stump field, the one closest to Staddle Falls, was once the Hanging Tree.
After reading through the ledger you recovered for him, Mason Thorne was able to point you to the location of the Hanging Tree.
Mason Thorne: 'I gave you what…hmmm…you wanted to know, didn't I? you whould go find…hmmm…whatever it was.'
Collected Pickthorn's treasure

Objective 2

Ted Pickthorn is on the east side of Combe.
Following Thorne's instructions, you found the stump of the Hanging Tree. You dug up something buried beneath the stump, but it is not what Ted Pickthorn had led you to believe. His father's treasure appears to be a pair of old boots.
Mason Thorne: 'Did you find what you…hmmm…wanted? It looks from your face like you…hmmm…did. Good for you!'
Ted Pickthorn: 'Wh-what are these? These boots were buried beneath the Hanging Tree? Me dad was a villain to the end! "Wealth enough to keep you warm and shod." Shod, indeed!
'Wait... there's something rattling around inside the heel of this one.' Taking a knife from his pocket, Ted slices into the heel, and gold pieces tumble out into his waiting palm.
'Well, I'll be! My dear old dad told me true! "Wealth enough to keep you warm and shod," indeed! You have my thanks, <name>! With this money, I'll be able to get a new start! I'll do better than my dear old dad, you wait and see!'

The Logger's Ledger

Bestowal dialogue

'Maybe the woodcutters at the lumber camp up east of here remember which tree was the Hanging Tree! <name>, you've got to have a word with Mason Thorne, the man in charge there. He just has to remember which o' the stumps used to be the Hanging Tree. He just has to!
'The lumber camp is along the road, north o' the Big House. Please, I need that money to make a new start for meself.'

Background

Ted Pickthorn was greatly distressed when you told him the Hanging Tree and all the trees surrounding it had been chopped down.

Objective 1

Mason Thorne is at the lumber-camp, north and east of the guard-house.
Ted Pickthorn asked you to speak with Mason Thorne, the foreman at the Combe lumber-camp. He may recall which tree had been the hanging tree.
Ted Pickthorn: 'You tell those woodcutters at the lumber-camp that they can't go around chopping down trees willy-nilly like that!
'I realize that the people of Combe depend on the sale of that wood to get by, but this is me dad's legacy we're talking about! How am I ever going to find it now without digging holes up and down the Chetwood?'
Mason Thorne: 'The Hanging Tree? Oh, I remember seeing a few... hmm... hangings in my day. I... hmmm... do believe I wrote the site o' the Hanging Tree down in my ledger. I write down all the things I want to remember. So I can just look it up in...
'Well... hmmm... bless me! I think I dropped my ledger in the woods not far from here. Yes, I remember! We were surprised by some o' those Blackwold, and I droppped my ledger on the road. I'd wager a captain o' those brigands picked it up!'
'There are quite a few campfires to the north and east, along the forested road. You might find my ledger on one o' them Blackwolds! Bring it back here... hmmm... and I'll look up that thing you wanted to know about. A tree, was it?'

Objective 2

  • Collect Mason Thorne's ledger
  • Bring the ledger to Mason Thorne
Mason Thorne awaits you at the lumber camp that lies east and north of Combe, south of the Chetwood.
Thorne sent you to retrieve his ledger from the Blackwold brigands encamped along the road. You should return the ledger to him at once.
Mason Thorne: 'I expect a…hmmm…Blackwold has my ledger. One o' them captains is probably using it to plan their movements in the Chetwood! They're camped to the east. You'll have to get it from them, if you want to know…hmmm…where that tree is.'
Collected Mason Thorne's ledger
Mason Thorne: 'Ah, you found my ledger! Now I can find that...hmmm...thing you wanted!'

The Wisdom of the Thrushes

Bestowal dialogue

'We need to find out where the Dourhand burglars took the gold they stole from our treasury, <name>, and I believe I know just how to do it.
'The thrushes of the Vale of Thráin have long served as the eyes of Durin's Folk in the air. If the Dourhands tried moving the stolen gold from Thorin's Hall, as they must have, one of the thrushes would surely have seen them.
'Nos Grimsong is a friend of the thrushes who has long been loyal to the Lonely Mountain, and he understands their language. Nos was last appointed to duty at the outpost of Noglond to the south.
'To get to Noglond, speak with the stable master, Wíli, to the west of Frerin's Court. Tell him you want a steed to take you to Noglond and he'll take care of the rest.
'When you get to Noglond, look for Rothgar. He'll be your point of contact for the time being.'

Background

Dwalin wants to know where the Dourhands went with the stolen gold and wonders if the thrushes of the Vale of Thráin might have seen something.

Objective 1

Noglond can be found far to the south of Thorin's Hall. As such Dwalin suggested you speak with Wíli the stable master in Frerin's Court.
Dwalin wants you to seek out Nos Grimsong, one of his loyal retainers and a friend to the thrushes of the Vale of Thráin. If the thrushes saw the Dourhand burglars, Nos will have heard about it. Dwalin instructed you to take a horse from Frerin's court to the outpost of Noglond. Once there you are to speak to Rothgar.
Dwalin: 'Head south to Frerin's Court and speak with Wíli about getting a horse to Noglond. When you get there speak with Rothgar, he should know hwere Nos is.'
Wíli: 'Well met, <name>. If ever you need to travel at speed you should come to visit me or whomever the closest stable master happens to be.
'So Dwalin sent you to me to purchase passage to Noglond did he? Well it's a good thing he did considering how far away Noglond is.
'Simply speak with me about renting a horse and you'll be able to purchase safe passage at speed on one of my finest mounts.
'When you get there be sure to look for Rothgar, I expect he'll have some taks for you.'

Objective 2

Wíli is in the west end of Frerin's Court.
Wíli told you to travel to Noglond by way of one of his horses and to speak with Rothgar when you arrive there.
Wíli: 'So Dwalin sent you to me to purchase passage to Noglond did he? Well it's a good thing he did considering how far away Noglond is. Simply speak with me about renting a horse, and you'll be abl to purchase safe passage at speed on one of my fine mounts.
'When you get there be sure to look for Rothgar, I expect he'll have some tasks for you.'
Rothgar: 'Welcome to Noglond, friend <class>! You might not know it, but this way-station has a storied history nearly as rich as Thorin's Halls itself! I would be honoured to tell you of....
'Oh, I see. You are here on business from Dwalin? You will never find a truer Longbeard than our Steward, and Thorin's Halls are maintained with the dignity that befits our glorious....
'Ah, yes, your pardon. What was it you were wanting, friend?'
Rothgar listens as you relay Dwalin's instructions and nods knowingly.
'Nos came through here just hours ago. When he left he mentioned heading to the Thrushstones.
'Follow the road north back to Thorin's Hall and it will turn sharply to the west. Continue to follow the road until it bends to the north again. Continue west from there and you will find the Thrushstones.'

Objective 3

Nos Grimsong is at the Thrushstones, north-west of Noglond.
Rothgar told you that Nos can be found to the north-west of Noglond. Head that way and look for Nos Grimsong to see if he's heard anything from the thrushes about the Dourhands robbing the dwarf treasury.
Rothgar: 'Nos came through here just hours ago. When he left he mentioned heading to the Thrushstones.
'Follow the road north back to Thorin's Hall and it will turn sharply to the west. Continue to follow the road until it bends to the north again. Continue west from there and you will find the Thrushstones.'
Nos Grimsong: 'You're here about the Dourhands sneaking out of Thorin's Halls, aren't you? The thrushes told me all about it, and I wrote it down to show Dwalin. Here, I'll give you my....
'Oh no! Lynx! Quick, help me fight them off! They're always hungry for thrushes!'

Objective 4

  • Defend Nos Grimsong
Nos Grimsong is at the Thrushstones, north-west of Noglond.
Rothgar told you that Nos can be found to the north-west of Noglond. Head that way and look for Nos Grimsong to see if he's heard anything from the thrushes about the Dourhands robbing the dwarf treasury.
Nos Grimsong says, "The lynx are back! You must help me defend against them!"
Nos Grimsong says, "Stay alert! We're not safe yet!"
Nos Grimsong says, "Look! Up on the hill! More of them!"
Nos Grimsong says, "Don't let your guard down yet!"
You successfully defended Nos Grimsong
Nos Grimsong says, "That showed them!"
Nos Grimsong says, "You have my thanks! Now take these notes, and show them to Rothgar!"

Objective 5

Rothgar is in Noglond to the south-east.
Nos Grimsong wrote down what he learned from the thrushes about the movements of the Dourhands in recent days and gave you his notes to take to Rothgar.
Nos Grimsong: 'Head back to Rothgar in Nogland and give him my note. He'll know what to do next.'
Rothgar: 'Dwalin was right to count on Nos Grimsong and his friends among the thrushes! These notes confirm that the Dourhands brought their stolen gold in secret down into the Vale of Thráin, but the thrushes insist that they then returned to their old stronghold in the mountains that border the Vale. I thought that old city was infested with goblins now.
'There were goblins in the Silver Deep, as well, and the Dourhands seem to have passed untroubled. There is something strange going on here, <name>, though you probably don't need me to tell you that.'

Hallowed Ground

Bestowal dialogue

'This is a beautiful land, is it not? I wandered it often in my youth -- but places that were once fair have long since fallen into decay. Some of the older ruins have even become habitations for foul creatures that gnaw at the edges of our lands.
'My brothers and I have set to ourselves the task of cleansing a few of these places before we leave. To this end, I have in my possession a token given to me by Elrond Halfelven long ago. It is imbued with a light that creatures of evil find painful to bear.
'The ruins of Tham Gelair west of Celondim have become infested with foul creatures. If you could slay any you find within, and then place this token there, its light should keep them from slinking back in the night.'

Background

Thinglaer, an Elf lingering at Celondim, seeks to restore a few of the old Elven places before he departs for the Grey Havens.

Objective 1

Tham Gelair lies to the west of Celondim.
Thinglaer has asked you to go to the ruins of Tham Gelair and slay some of the foul creatures there.
Thinglaer: 'You must purge the fell beasts from the land.'

Objective 2

Tham Gelair is west of Celondim.
Thinglaer has asked you to place his token within the Elf-ruins west of Celondim.
Token placed

Objective 3

Thinglaer is at Celondim, east of Tham Gelair.
You should return to Thinglaer and let him know that you have done as he asked.
Thinglaer: 'Your news gladdens my heart, <name>, and I am eager to walk among the ruins as I once did, with the sky over my head and the sun on my face. The cool shadows cast by the walls will no longer be a reminder of the Shadow in the East, but of respite and restoration.'

Flourdumpling's Stand

Bestowal dialogue

'I've thought about Mundo's demand that I pay compensation for his ill treatment in Bree-land, <name>, and I'm not going to do it! We simply can't afford to pay money to satisfy a single hobbit for an experience that was his own fault to begin with.
'The Sackville-Bagginses have never liked me, either. I think it was one of them that started calling me "Flourdumpling" after the roof of Town Hole gave way and buried me in chalk, you know. I don't mind when the Shirriffs call me that, but from the Sackville-Bagginses it is just too much.
'The time has come to take a stand! I will not be bullied by the Sackville-Bagginses any longer -- they can't push me around, and I don't mind telling them that! Well, actually I'm a little busy. Run along to Bag End, north of Hobbiton, and tell Lobelia that for me, will you?'

Background

Mundo Sackville-Baggins has demanded that Mayor Whitfoot pay compensation to his family for Mundo's recent bad experiences, and the mayor is at a loss as to what to do.

Objective 1

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is at Bag End, north of Hobbiton.
Mayor Whitfoot has decided to take a stand and refuse Mundo Sackville-Baggins' demand for compensation, but a sudden lack of time has required him to send you to break the news to Mundo's aunt, Lobelia.
Mayor Will Whitfoot: 'I'm not afraid of the Sackvill-Bagginses, not one bit! I'm just...very busy, all of a sudden. You go tell Lobelia that I'm not going to give her anything for Mundo's troubles. She lives at Bag End, north of Hobbiton.'
Lotho Sackville-Baggins: 'What do you want? I don't like talking to Bounders -- or whatever you are -- if I can help it. Useless, the whole bunch of you!'
Lobelia Sackville-Baggins: 'I heard about the troubles my nephew Mundo went through in Bree-land. I assume you're here with Old Flourdumpling's coin-purse, to repay us for Mundo's Hardship?
'You're not? What is this nonsense? Whitfoot doesn't have an ounce of sense in that fat head of his! It doesn't surprise me that he didn't have the courage to come tell me this himself, but he'll regret it! I'll go to Michel Delving to see him personally and tell him in no uncertain terms what I think of him.
'What use is he as Mayor, anyway? And what use are the Bounders, for that matter? My nephew has gone through so much, and he was barely outside the Bounds!'

The Founding Writ

Bestowal dialogue

'Ah, yes, good day to you. I was wondering if you could do me a favour?
'I have just received word that Adelard Took has found a copy of the original writ penned by the old King. This writ granted the Fallohide brothers, Marcho and Blanco, the lands that became the Shire. It is a most exceptional find! True, I already have a copy of the document, but it is in very poor shape. If this copy is in better condition, it would be a marvelous addition to the Mathom-house!
'Would you go to Tookland and speak to Adelard about this find? I believe you can find him in the Great Smials in Tuckborough.'

Background

Adelard Took has sent word that a copy of the Founding Writ, the document that established the Bounds of the Shire, has been discovered. The original document was given to the Fallohide brothers, Marcho and Blanco, by the old King.

Objective 1

Adelard Took can be found in the Great Smials in Tuckborough.
Brombard Foxtail, the Keeper of the Mathom-house heard rumour of Adelard Took's find and asked you to try and obtain the copy of the Founding Writ from Adelard.
Keeper Brombard Foxtail: 'Do please be quick about acquiring that copy of the Founding Writ. I'm anxious to get a look at such a find! Speak with Adelard Took in the Great Smials in Tuckborough…he is the one who sent me word of this.'
Adelard Took: 'Oh dear! You are here for the Founding Writ? Please don't let Paladin know, but I don't gave it!
'A local farmer, Belco Brockhouse, has it, and he won't give it up. His home is north of here, up the hill and to the right of the path, and he says he won't give up the Writ until he gets a hand with his crops. Honestly! At my age, I can't help with farm labour!
'I'm sorry to say that if you want the Writ, you'll have to speak to him and perhaps lend a hand. The cheek of some hobbits!'

Objective 2

Belco Brockhouse can be found north of Tuckborough town centre, up the hill and on the right of the path.
To his embarassment, Adelard Took revealed that he doesn't have the Founding Writ. A local farmer, Belco Brockhouse, is the one who found the Writ, but he refuses to hand it over to Adelard until someone helps him around his farm.
Adelard Took: 'Belco Brockhoouse is the one who has the Writ. Go speak with him about it, up the hill to the north…but be prepared to help him with his farm!'
Belco Brockhouse: 'Aye, I got that piece o' parchment Adelard's wanting. I found it among my Mum's things, and I don't mind it going off to the Mathom-house -- I'd rather it go there than into Adelard's collection -- but there's a few problems I need help with.
'See, my fences need mending, my pig has run off, and I need some feed from Hobbiton. If you help me with those tasks, I'll give you the Writ. Fair to you?'
