Belco's Writ

Bestowal dialogue

'Aye, I suppose you've done enough for me, although I am going to miss the extra help around the farm here. And Old Sally seems to have taken a liking to you, although that could just be because you brought her feed!
'Here's that copy of the writ I found in my mum's things. Take it over to Keeper Foxtail at the Mathom-house in Michel Delving.
'And make sure you don't let that Adelard Took have it, I don't want it near his collection!'

Background

After helping him out around the farm, Belco Brockhouse has finally given you the copy of the Founding Writ of the Shire he found among his mother's things.

Objective 1

Brombard Foxtail is at the Mathom-house in Michel Delving.
Belco Brockhouse, satisifed with your services, exhorted you to take his copy of the Founding Writ directly to Keeper Brombard Foxtail. He has no desire to see it end up in the hands of Adelard Took.
Belco Brockhouse: 'What you doing hanging about here? Anxious for more work? If not, be off with you. Take that Writ to Keeper Foxtail in Michel Delving.'
Adelard Took: 'Marvelous, you have the Writ! Thank you for your work. Now, if you don't mind, please give it to Brombard Foxtail with my regards!'
Brombard Foxtail: 'Excellent, so this is it! Let me take a look at it....
'Yes, interesting, interesting. Wonderful! It is a complete copy of the Writ and is in a better condition than the one already in the Mathom-house. Thank you for your efforts. I trust it wasn't too difficult to acquire, was it?'

Shore Up the Fence

Bestowal dialogue

'You see them coneys running all over my garden there? Since all them holes appeared in my stone fences, I can't keep the devils out. I've been wanting to gather up some new field stones to patch them up, but haven't found the time yet to do it.
'There's a great big willow down the hill and to the south-east, directly south of Longo Burrow's farm -- you can find many stones o' different sizes down there. Bring me a variety o' them, if you would. Never know what I'll need to patch the fences!
'Hurry along now, or I'll be giving the Writ to the coneys!'

Background

Belco Brockhouse found a copy of the Founding Writ of the Shire, but will not give it up until he has received some services in return.

Objective 1

Field stones can be found south of Longo Burrow's farm near the big willow. Belco lives north-west of the willow, on the upper slopes of Tuckborough.
Belco Brockhouse's fences need mending, and he has asked you to gather stones from the field for him to use in patching them.
Belco Brockhouse: 'I need a few more stone before I can patch my fence.
'You should be able to find field stones that'll work over by the big willow south-east of here. Look for Longo Burrow's farm - the willow is directly south of Longo's place. Patching them breaks in the fence won't be easy, so make sure you gather a few differnt sizes.'
Belco Brockhouse: 'These stones will do nicely for my fences. Never thought I'd find the time to gather them up, but it seems things are changing a bit for me since finding that old Writ!'

Old Sally

Bestowal dialogue

'My pig, Old Sally, has run off again. Sometimes I think that pig is more trouble than she's worth. Always running off, eating like a horse and scared o' her own shadow! If I weren't so fond o' her, I would have made sausage out of her years ago!
'Usually when she runs off, it's down to the woods south-east o' here, by the big willow. If you find her, approach her carefully and bring her back to the barn here.
'Be careful though, she spooks easily, so if she sees anything while you are bringing her back, she might run off, and this time for good!'

Background

Belco Brockhouse found a copy of the Founding Writ of the Shire, but will not give it up until he has received some services in return.

Objective 1

Belco Brockhouse's pig, Old Sally, may be found near the big willow south-east of Belco's farm.
Belco has asked you to find his pig, Old Sally, and bring her back to his barn. He warned you that she spooks easily, and if she gets too scared, she may run away.
Belco Brockhouse: 'If you are wanting that Writ, you need to find my pig, Old Sally. When she runs off, she's usually found to the south-east o' here, not far from the big willow.
'Now approach her carefully, she's rather skittish. And make sure no criters get too close to here, she's likely to spook. And if she gets too spooked, she may run away for good!'
Old Sally: The pig cautiously snorts your hand, but seems satisfied that you mean her no harm. She looks like she is ready to return to Belco's barn.
Old Sally sniffs the air, then starts on her way.
Old Sally halts in alarm and sniffs the air.
Old Sally halts in alarm and sniffs the air.
You successfully defended Old Sally on her way back to the farm

Objective 2

Belco Brockhouse can be found south of the Tuckborough town centre.
You should speak with Belco Brockhouse and let him know that you led his pig, Old Sally, back to his barn.
Belco Brockhouse: 'Ah, good, the old girl is back. She's a nuisance at times, that one, but in the end I suppose I'm too fond of her to do much else with 'er.
'Thanks for doing that, but I suppose I owe the real thanks to that Writ I found, don't I?'

A Sack of Feed

Bestowal dialogue

'So my pig, old Sally, when she ain't running loose all over the countryside, eats, and eats like you wouldn't believe. Goes through a sack o' feed in no time! Never seen a pig with an appetite like hers.
'I need you to go to the Grange up in Hobbiton and fetch me a sack o' feed. Don't worry about talking to Ted Sandyman there to pay for them...I told him someone was going to come by and get them later today.
'Now, if you want that Writ, you'd best be hurrying along! Head north across the Bywater Bridge in Hobbiton, and you'll see the Grange right there to your left.'

Background

Belco Brockhouse found a copy of the Founding Writ of the Shire, but will not give it up until he has received some services in return.

Objective 1

The sack of feed can be found on the Grange north of Hobbiton. Once you have picked up the feed, bring them back to Belco in Tuckborough.
Belco has told you that his pig, Old Sally, has a ravenous appetite, and that he needs more feed if he is to satisfy her. He has instructed you to go to the Grange and pick up a sack of feed.
Belco Brockhouse: 'Old Sally has not use for this Writ, but I know that you do! Go fetch the sack o' feed that I'm due from the Grange, and then we can talk some more. Head north through Hobbiton to the Bywater Bridge, and you'll see the Grange right there on your left.'
Belco Brockhouse says, "Aye, those are the oats Sally likes. I'll take 'em off your hands..."

The Founding Writ

Bestowal dialogue

'Ah, yes, good day to you. I was wondering if you could do me a favour?
'I have just received word that Adelard Took has found a copy of the original writ penned by the old King. This writ granted the Fallohide brothers, Marcho and Blanco, the lands that became the Shire. It is a most exceptional find! True, I already have a copy of the document, but it is in very poor shape. If this copy is in better condition, it would be a marvelous addition to the Mathom-house!
'Would you go to Tookland and speak to Adelard about this find? I believe you can find him in the Great Smials in Tuckborough.'

Background

Adelard Took has sent word that a copy of the Founding Writ, the document that established the Bounds of the Shire, has been discovered. The original document was given to the Fallohide brothers, Marcho and Blanco, by the old King.

Objective 1

Adelard Took can be found in the Great Smials in Tuckborough.
Brombard Foxtail, the Keeper of the Mathom-house heard rumour of Adelard Took's find and asked you to try and obtain the copy of the Founding Writ from Adelard.
Keeper Brombard Foxtail: 'Do please be quick about acquiring that copy of the Founding Writ. I'm anxious to get a look at such a find! Speak with Adelard Took in the Great Smials in Tuckborough…he is the one who sent me word of this.'
Adelard Took: 'Oh dear! You are here for the Founding Writ? Please don't let Paladin know, but I don't gave it!
'A local farmer, Belco Brockhouse, has it, and he won't give it up. His home is north of here, up the hill and to the right of the path, and he says he won't give up the Writ until he gets a hand with his crops. Honestly! At my age, I can't help with farm labour!
'I'm sorry to say that if you want the Writ, you'll have to speak to him and perhaps lend a hand. The cheek of some hobbits!'

Objective 2

Belco Brockhouse can be found north of Tuckborough town centre, up the hill and on the right of the path.
To his embarassment, Adelard Took revealed that he doesn't have the Founding Writ. A local farmer, Belco Brockhouse, is the one who found the Writ, but he refuses to hand it over to Adelard until someone helps him around his farm.
Adelard Took: 'Belco Brockhoouse is the one who has the Writ. Go speak with him about it, up the hill to the north…but be prepared to help him with his farm!'
Belco Brockhouse: 'Aye, I got that piece o' parchment Adelard's wanting. I found it among my Mum's things, and I don't mind it going off to the Mathom-house -- I'd rather it go there than into Adelard's collection -- but there's a few problems I need help with.
'See, my fences need mending, my pig has run off, and I need some feed from Hobbiton. If you help me with those tasks, I'll give you the Writ. Fair to you?'
