Pipe-weed Delivery

Bestowal dialogue

'There's a pair of fine gentlemen, Mr. Larkspur and Mr. Hawkling, what have taken up residence at Adso Haybank's camp, along the Great East Road north of the Old Forest.
'Yes, sir, fine gentlemen indeed! Hunters of game, great and small. Last time they were through here, Mr. Hawkling asked me to procure them a bit of pipe-weed.
'If you'd be so kind, deliver this cask to them with all due haste. I'm sure Mr. Hawkling will tip you if you're quick about it.'

Background

Bruner Stoutthrush, a merchant in Bree, has asked you to deliver an order to two of his customers.

Objective 1

Roger Hawkling can be found at Adso Haybank's camp along the Great East Road, west of Bree, north of the Old Forest.
Stoutthrush wants you to bring the cask of pipe-weed to Roger Hawkling.
Collected the Barrel of Staddle Pipe-weed
Roger Hawkling: 'So, that ill-favoured fellow, Stoutthrush, finally came through with our pipe-weed. Looks like I owe you for that wager, Larkspur!'

Reconnecting Ties

Bestowal dialogue

'Pardon me, do you think I could take up some o' your time? I haven't had any word o' me son Covell since this brigand nonsense began, and I'm afeared something might have happened to him!
'We lived in Archet till recently, but we had an argument -- I'm sure ye know how boys are -- and Covell left all in a huff. He said he would make his own way, down in Combe, and that's the last I heard o' him. Now that I've come to Combe, I hear he's gone east!
'If ye don't mind, could ye talk to Constable Wren for me? She watches the road east out o' Combe, and maybe she's seen Covell pass.'

Background

Maida Woodwright had an argument with her son Covell, and she has not seen him since. The Blackwold activity in the area has made her nervous, and she is seeking news of him.

Objective 1

Constable Wren is at the guard-house, east of Combe.
Maida Woodwright has asked that you speak with Constable Wren regarding the whereabouts of her son, Covell.
Maida Woodwright: 'I hope Covell didn't get into any trouble! Constable Wren may have seen him pass. She watches the road east out of Combe.'
Constable Wren: 'Looking for Covell Woodwright, are you? I've heard something about the boy, but I can't say his mother is going to like it.
'He's joined up with the Blackwolds. He hadn't been in Combe for long when they took him, either. He tried finding work around town, but he didn't have the stamina for hard labour.
'If you can talk to him, you might convince him to give up his new line of "work," but I doubt it. I wager you'll find him east of Combe, in the Chetwood. Just follow the path from the lumber camp north and east... you're sure to come across a Blackwold camp or two up there.'

Objective 2

Covell may be found at one of the Blackwold camps north and east of the Combe lumber camp.
Maida Woodwright sent you to speak with Constable Wren, who suggested that Covell joined the Blackwolds and would likely be found near one of their camps in the Chetwood.
Constable Wren: 'Covell Woodwright is probably with his Blackwold friends in the Chetwood, east of here. It could be that you will convince him to give up his lawless ways, but I rather doubt it.'
Covell Woodwright: 'What's that? Me mother sent you to find me?
'I... I don't care! I've never been good at anything in my life, but now I've found something I can do and do right good! You're going to regret coming into Blackwold territory!'
Covell Woodwright says, "You may have won this round, but I will never abandon the Blackwold!"
Covell Woodwright says, "Now tell my mum to leave me be!"

Objective 3

  • Talk to Constable Wren
Constable Wren patrols near the guard-house on the hill south of the lumber camp and east of Combe.
You discovered Covell Woodwright on the path leading through the Chetwood, and he attacked you. Though you defeated him, he escaped deeper into the woods. Constable Wren will want to hear of your encounter with the brigand.
Constable Wren: 'You fought with Covell Woodwright, but he escaped? Well, his sort will not be able to flee forever. I feel the time of the Blackwold brigands is coming to an end.
'It seems I was right, and he will never give up his lawlessness. His mother will not be pleased to hear it.'

Objective 4

Maida Woodwright is back in Combe.
Maida Woodwright must be told that her son Covell has joined the Blackwold brigands.
Constable Wren: 'It will not be easy, but you must tell Maida that her son has joined the Blackwold brigands. She should know the truth.'
Maida Woodwright: 'What? Covell has joined those villains in truth? I refuse to believe it! He's a good boy, even if he has a temper. He's a Woodwright, through and through, and would never do such a thing! Ye shouldn't say such horrible things, and to an old woman!
'Ah, what am I saying? I knew the boy had landed hisself in a spot o' trouble. Thank ye... thank ye at last for finding him.'

Posco's Uncle

Bestowal dialogue

'My Uncle Filbert and I were having tea and discussing the state of things in Bree-land -- about how the folk in Archet showed the Blackwold brigands a thing or two -- when Uncle Filbert stood up and said, "Someone ought do something about these villains. I'm going to give them a piece of my mind." And then he left, without even finishing his tea!
'Up the road in the woods east of this camp, past the brigands' watchfires, there's some ruins where the Blackwolds are holed up. Uncle Filbert has probably gone there to have a word with them. Though I don't think he will make the full journey, he's not as young as he once was.
'If he has, he's likely got himself into trouble. I dare go no further to search for him, but could you go look for him and make sure he's all right?'

Background

Posco Burrows is concerned that his uncle, Filbert Burrows, has gone deep into the Chetwood to 'have a word' with the Blackwold brigands and wants to make sure he has not gotten himself into trouble.

Objective 1

Filbert Burrows should be somewhere along the road east of Combe heading towards the Chetwood.
Posco Burrows has asked you to look for his uncle, Filbert, and make sure he is unharmed.
Posco Burrows: 'Uncle Filbert is probably sitting on a stump or rock right now! I would wager he never made it by the split in the road!'
Filbert Burrows: 'Finally, someone respectable! I was beginning to think no one out here in the woods had any manners! I simply couldn't stand by any longer while the Blackwolds have their way in the Chetwood! I marched right in and told them just what I think of their sort.
'They laughed me right out of their camp! "Go back to Hobbiton, little boy!" they said to me! I've never been spoke to like this, never! I wanted to leave, something in that ruin is a bit off, I say!
'One ruffian, Cole Sickleleaf -- he used to be a good boy -- took my handkerchief. Could you bring it back to me? He ran off to the ruins all the way to the east, between the frightening ruins to the north and that Skunkwood's farm.'

Objective 2

Cole Sickleleaf is at the ruins between the main Blackwold encampment and Skunkwood's Farm.
You found Posco Burrow's uncle, Filbert, sitting on a stump at the crossroads in the Chetwood. He wants you to collect a handkerchief taken by Cole Sickleleaf.
Filbert Burrows: 'Have you got my handkerchief yet?'

Objective 3

  • Bring the handkerchief to Filbert Burrows
Filbert Burrows is waiting at the crossroads in the Chetwood.
You should return Filbert Burrow's handkerchief to him and convince him to leave the area.
Filbert Burrows: 'You, at least, have some decency. I thank you very much for returning my handkerchief and bid you a good day, as civilized folk are wont to do!
'I'm going to stay here and keep an eye on these impolite troublemakers. Maybe it's the Tookish blood I get from my mother's side of the family, but it'll take more than insults to send me back to town unsatified! Perhaps my presence here will remind these ruffians what it means to live in Bree-land!
'If you can tell my nephew, Posco, that I'm fine, I'd appreciate it. Good day!'

Objective 4

Posco Burrows is waiting for you at the Lumber Camp by Combe.
Filbert Burrows, determined to remain where he is until the Blackwolds relent, has asked you to return to Combe to tell his nephew, Posco Burrows, that he is fine.
Filbert Burrows: 'I'm going to keep an eye on these Blackwold villians. I don't trust 'em one bit! You go back to the Lumber Camp by Combe and tell my nephew Posco that everything's fine, and I'll be back soon.'
Posco Burrows: 'It's good to hear that Uncle Filbert is all right. He always says that I'll develop good hobbit-sense when I get older, but if he's any example, I'm not sure I will!
'Thank you for looking in on him, <name>.'

Old Bauman's Farm

Bestowal dialogue

'Have you heard that Archet gave them Blackwold villains what-for? Kicked 'em right out, they did, and good on 'em! If little old Archet can manage it, I say Combe can do one better, and sweep them Blackwolds out o' the Chetwood for good!
'Now I lost my Sally's chain when them brigands took over my farm. She's been gone for many a year, but that chain always did bring me comfort. One o' them Blackwolds probably picked it up, and I want it back! Farm's far to the east -- just follow the road past all them brigand campfires.
'Eh, what's that? No, it's a chain, not a necklace. What a queer question.'

Background

The Blackwold brigands seized Old Bauman's farm during the early days of their uprising.

Objective 1

Old Bauman's farm lies far to the east of Combe, beyond the brigand camps in the Chetwood, at the end of the eastward path. Old Bauman is at the logging camp, south of the Chetwood, east of Combe.
Old Bauman lost his farm to the Blackwolds when they retreated from Archet, and he would like you to go there and retrieve his Sally's chain for him.
Old Bauman: 'My old farm is east of herel, deep in the Chetwood. You'll pass by a lot of those brigand camps on the road, and the farm is on a small rise.'
Collected Sally's chain
Old Bauman: 'You found my Sally's chain and showed those Blackwold villains a thing or two, I don't doubt it! A lifetime o' thanks, <name>!
'Ah, Sally was a good hound. We'd go hunting in the fall, and she could sniff out a coney from what seemed near a mile! It's good to have her chain back. It's all I've got left o' her, now.
'Take these coins for your trouble, <name>, with my thanks.

Mourning the Dead

Bestowal dialogue

'I'm sorry, my mind is miles away. I didn't see you there. Did you help fight off the brigands? My dad did, he...he....' Gail chokes back a sob.
'During the Blackwolds' raid on Archet, someone broke into our house and stole many of our things. I don't care about most of them, but they took my dad's favourite fishing pole! I don't care if I get anything else back, but he wouldn't have wanted some filthy brigand to have it.
'Now that I've moved here to Combe, I've been meaning to ask Constable Wren if she could track down that fishing pole for me. Could you ask her if she has any idea where it might have been taken? She'll be at the guard-house on the hill east of Combe.'

Background

Gail Catchpole's father perished in the flames of The Mad Badger Inn, and many of their belongings were stolen by the Blackwold brigands.

Objective 1

Constable Wren can be found at the guard-house on the hill east of Combe.
Gail wants to find the brigands who stole her dead father's favourite fishing pole and retrieve it. She has sent you to ask Constable Wren for information about the brigands and where they might have taken her stolen goods.
Gail Catchpole: 'I just know Constable Wren will have some idea where the brigand who stole my father's fishing poke has gone! She's usually out in front of the guard-house on the hill east of Combe. Please talk to her.'
Constable Wren: 'I have heard that many of the Blackwold brigands, after looting Archet, fled into the Chetwood. It seems that the Blackwold leaders are angry. They feel that the raid might have been more successful if their followers had been less focused on filling their pockets and more on acting together.
'The main encampment is east down the road, and then deep into the northern woods. I suspect that many of the Blackwolds can be found within that camp.
'Mayhaps if you search in that area, you might find Gail's lost fishing pole.'

Objective 2

The main encampment of the Blackwolds is in the Chetwood, north of the guard-house.
Constable Wren suggested that the brigand who looted the fishing pole belonging to Gail Catchpole's dead father may be near the watering hole beneath the Blackwold main encampment.
Constable Wren: 'Gail will be pleased, I am sure, if you recovered her father's fishing pole.'
Collected the fishing pole
Gail Catchpole: 'You've found it! Oh, thank you, thank you!
'I've been thinking that the pole should be given to the waters of my dad's favourite fishing hole: the pond near the Hunter's Lodge in Archet. I think he'd like that.
'Thank you... thank you again!'

Family Treasures

Bestowal dialogue

'Ah, what troubled times we live in. Brigands have been raiding people's homes in Archet, Staddle, and Combe. Deplorable! Some of the poor folk have made their way here to Bree and told me their sad tales.
'Now I'd like nothing more than to help them but I'm just not made for adventures. Why don't you track down these villains and bring the stolen family heirlooms to me. Then I can return them to the rightful owners, the poor wretches. Just think of the looks on their faces!
'I hear there are brigands encamped in the Yellow Tree Ruins, south of Staddle; but it may be that some others in the Chetwood are also carrying stolen items.'

Background

Bruner Stoutthrush, a disreputable seeming gentleman from Bree, has decided to do a good deed for the refugees from the Blackwold attacks.

Objective 1

The brigands can be found in a large camp in the Yellow Tree Ruins, south of Staddle; but it may be that some others in the Chetwood also carry stolen items.
Whether as an act of beneficence or complete self-interest, Stoutthrush has asked you to collect stolen heirlooms from the brigands and bring them to him at Bree's Combe-gate.
Bruner Stoutthrush: 'What are you doing lazing about while people are suffering? Go find those poor people's things so that I can return them! I'd do it myself but I'm not the sort for such adventures.'

Objective 2

The brigands can be found in a large camp in the Yellow Tree Ruins, south of Staddle; but it may be that some others in the Chetwood also carry stolen items.
Whether as an act of beneficence or complete self-interest, Stoutthrush has asked you to collect stolen heirlooms from the brigands and bring them to him at Bree's Combe-gate.
Bruner Stoutthrush: 'Ah, you've found them! That was a kind deed. Now, let's just hope that I can find the poor people from whom these treasured things were stolen.'

Blackwold Valuables

Bestowal dialogue

'After the initial raids, when folk began fleeing for villages like Archet and Staddle, the Blackwolds found they could no longer rely only upon raids to support themselves. They seized Old Bauman's farm and began tilling the soil, though badly and without care for the land.
'The brigands at the farm must be under the supervision of some Blackwold leader, else they would fall to laziness. If you confront the Blackwolds' leader at the farm, you might be able to recover some of the valuables they have stolen. Old Bauman's farm is deep in the Chetwood, at the end of the eastward path.
'I would appreciate it if you could at least try. There are many folk who would benefit from the recovery of this treasure.'

Background

Constable Sageford has learned that the Blackwold brigands have been trying to support themselves by working a farm they seized deep in the Chetwood to the east of Combe.

Objective 1

  • Search for valuables
Old Bauman's farm is deep in the Chetwood, at the end of the eastward path.
Constable Sageford believes that if you confront the Blackwold's leader at Old Bauman's farm, you might be able to recover some of the valuables the Blackwolds have stolen.
You have found a receipt

Objective 2

Constable Sageford can be found near the town-centre in Combe, with his fellow constables.
Sageford sent you to confront the leader of the Blackwolds at Old Bauman's Farm. You found a receipt signed by a 'Rurik' on the Blackwold's body. Constable Sageford will want to know about this.
Constable Sageford: 'The farms north-east of Combe are sure to be under the watchful eye of some important Blackwold!'
Constable Sageford: 'What is this?
'Rurik? There's a Rurik Fennel living here in Combe. He's a...a locksmith! But why would he be aiding the Blackwolds, <name>? Rurik's house is south-west of here, just behind The Comb and Wattle.
'You had best have a talk with Rurik. I will be very interested to know why he's been locking boxes for the Blackwolds. Very interested, indeed.'

Unpaid Debts

Bestowal dialogue

'The Blackwold brigands are on the run, no question about it. They're trying to regroup at camps throughout the Chetwood, but they suffered a real defeat at Archet.
'The brigands fled their old encampment up by Archet carrying a large lockbox, bringing it to one of their smaller camps in the Chetwood, north-east of Combe. If we can get our hands on that lockbox, its contents could be used to help those who lost property to the Blackwolds. There are a number of watchfires along the road, so you'll need to find the right one.
'These villains have a great many debts to repay, <name>. If you can return with the lockbox, the folk around here will be better for it.'

Background

Now that the Blackwold brigands have been largely pushed out of Archet, Constable Sageford wants to redistribute their stolen goods to those who suffered at their hands.

Objective 1

The Blackwolds have many camps along the road east and north of Combe. Constable Sageford is in Combe.
Constable Sageford wants you to recover a brigand lockbox from one of the watchfires in the Chetwood. Its contents can then be used to reimburse those who lost property to the Blackwold.
Constable Sageford: 'The Blackwold watchfires along the road in the Chetwood are far to the east, beyond the lumber-camp. When you reach the fence at the guard-house on the hill, cut across the fields to the left and keep walking until you are beneath the trees.
'The lockbox is most likely still at one of the Blackwold watchfires.'
Constable Sageford: 'Ah, you have returned with the brigands' lockbox! Now let me see what's inside, and we can sell the valuables to support the survivors of the Blackwold raids throughout the area.
'Locked! I should have guessed as much. Well, until we can find the key, we won't have any luck with this. There seems to be some initials carved in the lock: "R.F." Most unusual.'

Spider-bane

Bestowal dialogue

'This spider-queen -- Iornaith by name -- and her ways are known to me. She will have hidden herself in Sprigley's house and blocked all the entrances, save one.
'If you search the tunnels below the house, I would wager you will find a hidden passage leading to Iornaith's lair. The vile thing must be slain, or Archet will be overrun by her brood.
'Would that I were hale and could heft an axe! But that time has passed. Now, the mantle of Spider-bane must pass to you, if you'll have it. I do not suggest you try to face her alone.'

Background

An ancient spider-queen has pursued Atli Spider-bane to Archet and invaded Cal Sprigley's farm.

Objective 1

Sprigley's farm is south of Bronwe's Folly. One entrance to the spider tunnels lies through the cellar of Sprigley's shed, while the other is through the cave mouth due west of the Hunter's Lodge.
To prevent Iornaith's brood from overrunning Archet, Atli Spider-bane has asked you to find and slay the spider-queen. Atli suggests searching the spider caves beneath Sprigley's farm for a secret entrance into the Iornaith's lair. He also suggested you take allies.
Atli Spider-bane: 'This spider is clever. Seek the entrance to her lair beneath Sprigley's farm. And beware her fangs! Though I ruined her eyes, she is ancient and full of malice.'
Defeated Iornaith

Objective 2

Atli Spider-bane can be found at the north end of Archet, west of the spider-cave, north-west of Sprigley's farm.
You should take news of Iornaith's defeat to Atli Spider-bane.
Atli Spider-bane: '"Many seeds did the Dread-weaver sow throughout our mountains...."
'Because of you, another of those seeds has passed from the world.
'I owe you a great debt...for Iornaith's death and for my life. Accept this reward, and with it, the friendship of Atli Spider-bane!'

The Master of the Refuge

Bestowal dialogue

'You have done so much for me already, <name>, but there is still much that must be done if my son is to be restored. We have not had dealings with the dwarves for a very long time, and those are not pleasant memories.
'You were at Edhelion, I believe? You remember Skorgrím's final attack on the old refuge, yes? Dwarves are scheming and self-serving, not to be trusted!
'We must gather our strength to lay siege to the dwarves of Ered Luin and rescue Avorthal from their clutches, but only Dorongúr Whitethorn, the Master of Duillond has the authority to muster such a force. Bring him the news of my son, that he is alive, but a prisoner. We must strike at the dwarves before it is too late!
'Speak with Toronn at the stable before you go. He will hasten you upon your journey.'

Background

The goblin Pampraush let slip the knowledge that Avorthal was not slain, but handed over to wicked dwarves. Cardavor was further embittered by this news and is prepared to declare open war against the dwarves of Ered Luin to reclaim his son.

Objective 1

Dorongúr Whitethorn can be found at the refuge of Duillond, north of Celondim.
While Cardavor is relieved that Avorthal still lives, he is prepared to wage war upon all the dwarves of Ered Luin to rescue his son. He has asked you to inform Dorongúr Whitethorn of Avorthal's captivity in hopes that Dorongúr will muster a force to reclaim the Elf-prince.
Cardavor: 'There is little time to spare, <name>! The wretched dwarves may not keep Avorthal alive for long. Go to Master Dorongúr at Duillond, to the north, and tell him that he must assemble a force of Elves to move against the dwarves at once!
'Speak with Toronn about a horse to Duillond.'
Toronn: 'Cardavor was wise to send you to me. You should take a horse to the sanctuary at Duillond. They are swift and can cover distances more swiftly than your own feet. Speak with the stable master and he will see you carried on the back of a swift horse.
'Move quickly, Avorthal's life is in the balance.'
Dorongúr Whitethorn: 'Your news is troubling, <name>. For dwarves to work peacefully with goblins is unusual enough, but to conspire in the abduction of an Elf-prince seems foolhardy, even for them.
'I will not call our warriors to arms just yet. Cardavor is full of anger, which is to be expected, but as Master of Duillond it is my duty to exercise restraint.
'If the dwarves have indeed taken Avorthal, we will fall upon them with such fury that the mountains shall shake at our passing; but this could also be a trick of the goblins. They would have much to gain by a war between Elves and dwarves.'

Gondamon in the Low-lands

Bestowal dialogue

'That Dourhand burglar said that his folk paid the goblins well to steal a prince? I don't know what that means, but it can't be good!
'Mathi Stouthand became the chief of Gondamon, the great watch-post of the Low-lands, shortly after the Dourhands were driven from Thorin's Hall. If there is a war brewing, Mathi needs to be warned so he can begin the preparations.
'Follow the road east to Gondamon. There, I expect you'll find Mathi on the upper levels. Travel with great haste, <name>! I would quicken your feet with a tale of great deeds, but I see that there is no time to spare!'

Background

Rothgar is concerned about the ominous words you heard from the Dourhand burglar and feels Mathi Stouthand, Lord of Gondamon, should be told that trouble is brewing.

Objective 1

Mathi Stouthand can be found on the upper levels of Gondamon, along the road east of Noglond.
Rothgar has asked you to deliver word to Mathi Stouthand that the goblins and the Dourhands are planning some new treachery, while he delivers the stolen gold back to Dwalin.
Rothgar: 'Mathi Stouthand is the Lord of Gondamon and must be given warning that the goblins and the Dourhands are up to something. War could be brewing, and the forces of Gondamon will need to be prepared!
'Follow the road east to the fortress. I am sure you will find Mathi on the upper levels!'
Mathi: 'You could not have arrived with this news at a better time, <name>. An Elf-prince has gone missing, and the Elves are convinced that we abducted him and refuse to believe otherwise! We have learned where their prince is being held...an encampment of Dourhands to the north-east.
'Your information tells us a great deal about his fate, and I hope it is enough. The Elves have sent an emissary to Gondamon, and she insists that we rescue this Avorthal as a sign of our goodwill. A sign of our goodwill! As if the Longbeards need to prove anything!
'I have always considered myself an even-tempered dwarf, but this emissary has gone too far. We need someone who is neither dwarf nor Elf to organize this rescue. I do not want to be responsible for an outbreak of war in the Blue Mountains.'

The Old Dourhand City

Bestowal dialogue

'The thrushes saw the Dourhands carrying this stolen gold into the old Dourhand city to the west? That is very peculiar. You see, it has been infested with goblins for the past two years!
'I don't know why the Dourhands would bring the gold into a goblin-held city, even if they once called it home. Most peculiar. It reminds me of the tale of....
'I am sorry. You want to head west to the old Dourhand city and search it for the stolen Longbeard gold, I expect. It won't be easy, but I'll be waiting to hear of your exploits! Head west of Noglond and look for the stairs carved into the mountainside...and watch out for the goblins!'

Background

Rothgar told you about the old Dourhand city to the west of Noglond, but does not know why the Dourhands would bring the stolen gold into it -- the city was overrun by goblins two years earlier.

Objective 1

  • Find Stolen Longbeard Gold
The old Dourhand city lies to the west of Noglond, up a flight of steps carved into the mountains.
Rothgar has confirmed the existence of an old stronghold of the Dourhands, now goblin-infested, near Noglond. If the thrushes are correct, the Dourhands brought the stolen gold into the city.
Rothgar: 'The old Dourhand city where the dwarves brought the stolen Lonbeard gold is to the west of Noglond. Just lookfor the stairs carved into the mountainside. You'll want to watch out for goblins, of course.'
Dourhand Burglar says, "This business is between Dourhands and goblins, and does not concern you!"
Dourhand Burglar says, "Fight! Fight on for your gold!"
Dourhand Burglar says, "The goblins have proven better allies than the Longbeards!"
Dourhand Burglar says, "My end is near, but war follows close behind."
Dourhand Burglar says, "Enjoy the war… Thin-beard!"
Wild Blue-crag says, "Dwarf not yet give us gold! Attack!"
Collected Stolen Longbeard Gold

Objective 2

Rothgar is at Noglond, east of the old Dourhand city, along the road that runs through the Vale of Thráin.
You have recovered the stolen gold and should return it to Rothgar for delivery, as Dwalin instructed.
Rothgar: 'Well done, <name>, well done indeed! I will deliver this gold to Dwalin at Thorin's Halls, but it sounds to me like you have a more urgent errand to undertake!'

On to Gondamon

Bestowal dialogue

'This canal water is used down in Gondamon in the Low-lands as well as here in the Vale of Thráin. You should go down there and make sure they know we removed the blockage up here.
'Travel down the road to the east, then turn south at the first crossing and Gondamon will be right there. You will want to talk to old Otkell.
'Their cisterns must be nearly dry down there, what with the blockage as bad as it was!'

Background

With the thickets removed from the canal, the waterflow has been restored to Noglond in the Vale of Thráin.

Objective 1

Otkell is in Gondamon, east down the road from Noglond, and south at the first crossing.
Geitir has asked you to inform Otkell in Gondamon about the restoration of the canal.
Geitir: 'Gondamon is easy to find. Just take the road east, then turn south at the first crossing.'
Otkell: 'You restored the waterflow? Why it's not flowing nearly enough at all! You may have cleared out some problems over at Noglond, but there must be something else blocking the flow around here.'

What was Lost

Bestowal dialogue

'Toronn must know that while I remain behind, I will ever be with him. To do this, I will need your aid. So much of this land has been our shelter and teacher and our memories are filled with moments of joy and laughter because of this land.
'I think, perhaps, my brother will appreciate this well enough to see me on my journey as he begins his own. In the ruins of Dol Ringwest, there lies a sword upon a stone cairn, borne once by a Dúnadan we fought beside in defence of our homeland. I may be able to remind my brother of our duty to Middle-earth.
'My duties here will not allow me to leave, but I hope you will see the need I have to seal this rift between my brother and I. Will you help me?'

Background

Toronn desires to leave Middle-earth, while Bregar, his brother, believes they should remain.

Objective 1

  • Search the cairn for the broken sword
The broken sword is upon a stone cairn in the ruins of Dol Ringwest which lie west of Duillond.
Bregar has asked you to search the ruins of Dol Ringwest for the stone cairn and the broken sword it holds, which you should return to Bregar.
Bregar: 'Seek the broken sword at Dol Ringwest, west of here. It is very important!'
You found the broken sword

Objective 2

Bregar awaits your return in Duillond, east of the ruins of Dol Ringwest.
You recovered a broken sword from a burial cairn in the Elf-ruins of Dol Ringwest.
Bregar: 'This blade means much, broken and dulled as it may be. Alas, the passage of time does little to dull my memories of that battle.
'Perhaps I have underestimated the importance of brothers.'
