The Elf-sword

Bestowal dialogue

'Celairant bears the blood of the Rangers of the North, and the name of a great hero is amongst his forebears, a Man I was proud to call my friend and companion. Perhaps Celairant is young as Men count the years, but then all Men are young by my count.
'In ages past, I honoured my fallen companion with a sword placed at his grave amongst the mounds of the Edain. It may be that the sword can yet be found in that place. It bears the motto Elvellon, or Elf-friend in the tongue of Men. Perhaps if you find the sword, that will convince young Celairant not to spurn my gift.'

Background

After allowing Starkath to take the bow from him, Celairant is now certain that he is not worthy of the Elvish weapon.

Objective 1

The sword Elvellon can be found at a grave marker amongst the mounds of the Edain, north-east of Gondamon. Celairant is at the hunter's lodge, west of Kheledûl.
Penglir has asked you to retrieve a sword which he placed by his companion's grave long ago and take it to Celairant.
Penglir: 'Find Elvellon and give it to Celairant with my blessings.'
Found Elvellon, the Elf-sword
Celairant: 'What is this? Surely not another gift? Nay, this is something else, is it not? What is the significance of this old sword?
'This is the sword of my ancestor? You say he was a friend and companion of Penglir? Now I understand. He gave me the bow in honour of my great-grandfather.
'What? You think the gift was made to me, not to my forebear? Well, it may be you are right, despite all. It will be a challenge to live up to those bygone glories, but perhaps someday I will be able to wield the bow without shame.'

Someone Worthy

Bestowal dialogue

'I have been thinking, <name>. After all the trouble with Starkath over the bow, I don't believe I am worthy of it...especially since I could not even hold onto it.
'Please go back to Penglir and explain why I can't accept his bow. He may still be at Duillond to the south of Gondamon.
'I am a disappointment to my own folk and to the honour of Penglir's gift.'

Background

After allowing Starkath to take the bow from him, Celairant is now certain that he is not worthy of the Elvish weapon.

Objective 1

Penglir is at Duillond, south-east of Gondamon.
Celairant asked you to return to Penglir at Duillond and explain why he feels unworthy to bear the bow, having lost it once already to the dwarf-brigand Starkath.
Celairant: 'I am sure I do not deserve the bow. Please take it back to Penglir at the Elf-refuge.'
Penglir: 'He feels unworthy? Did Celairant think that I gave my bow to him upon a whim? I did not give that bow idly to the first Man I met!'

A Remarkable Bow

Bestowal dialogue

'An Elf named Penglir gave me this beautiful bow but I've gone and lost it! Or more to the point, it was stolen from me. The Rangers make a point to stay out of the feud between the Longbeards and the Dourhands, so I was not expecting to be waylaid by brigands out of Kheledûl!'
'They overpowered me as I was looking for a good place to practice outside the town and stole Penglir's bow! The dwarves and Starkath, their leader, skulk near the walls of Kheledûl.
'I knew I wasn't worthy to deserve such a rich gift. I'm a failure...an embarassment to Langlas and to the Rangers. So hapless am I that I dare not fight Starkath. Can you go forth and take the bow back from him?'

Background

While on his way to Duillond, an Elf named Penglir stopped at the hunters' lodge and gave his bow to the young Ranger Celairant. Celairant accepted the gift, but feels unworthy to own such a thing of beauty.

Objective 1

Starkath can be found outside the walls of Kheledûl. Celairant is at Thrasi's lodge, west of Kheledûl.
Celairant told you that his bow was stolen at sword-point by a Dourhand named Starkath and his minions. He has asked you to hunt down Starkath and recover the bow.
Celairant: 'Please, recover Penglir's ow from Starkath!'
Penglir: 'The bow must be returned to Celairant.'
You have recovered the stolen bow
Celairant: 'You recovered the bow from Starkath? You have my thanks, <name>! I have not much but my name, so my name is precious to me. I could not have lived with the shame of dishonouring Penglir's princely gift.'
