Elrond's Dream

Bestowal dialogue

'My father is great among the Wise, and his dreams and foretellings do not often stray from the mark. These are the words he imparted to me:
"Blood-red footsteps
Upon snow coloured black,
Where the Dour King walks
to take back his throne
and finish what was begun."
'I am no riddle-master, but some of the Elves of my company have skill in solving such things.
'Come, let us speak with the riddle-masters Merethen and Dorollas, for Dorollas bade us come here. Hopefully they know where to start looking.'

Background

Elladan, one of Elrond's sons, has come to Edhelion to investigate a disturbing dream that troubled his father.

Objective 1

  • Seek Merethen's insight on the riddle of Elrond's dream
The Elves of Elrond's Company can be found around the Edhelion Watch.
You should seek out Elves with ideas on where to start investigating the dream.
Elladan: 'Merethen and Dorollas are both here at the Edhelion Watch. You should seek them among the Elves of this company.'
Merethen: 'Mae govannen -- I am here to help solve the riddle that is Elrond's dream.
'Look yonder, <name>. Thorin's Hall belches smoke and soot, and the white snow of the mountain is black ere it touches the floor of the valley.
'"Upon snow coloured black...." What do you think? It is rather literal for a riddle.'
Merethen notes that the snow in the valley below is black from soot, and is likely the "black snow" in Elrond's dream

Objective 2

  • Seek Dorollas' insight on the riddle of Elrond's dream
The Elves of Elrond's Company can be found around the Edhelion Watch.
You should seek out Elves with ideas on where to start investigating the dream.
Merethen: 'Perhaps Dorollas will have more insight.'
Dorollas: 'I was the one who led the party here, for I believe the Dour King is none other than Skorgrím, king of the Dourhands of old.
'There is only one problem with my logic: Skorgrím has been dead for many long years. He died here, when he tried to raid Edhelion for Elven relics that he believed would ensure his immortality.
'I hope I have not led the party astray, but my heart tells me Skorgrím is part of this story.'
Dorollas believes that Skorgrím is the Dour King in Elrond's dream

Objective 3

Elladan waits on the road to Edhelion.
You should speak with Elladan of what you learned from Merethen and Dorollas.
Dorollas: 'You should return to Elladan.'
Elladan: 'Dorollas led us here because he believes that Skorgrím is the Dour King in my father's dream? Had I known, I would never have let this party be led here. Skorgrím is dead; my father watched him die!
'But Merethen believes she has found a piece of the puzzle -- the black snow, dirtied from the Dourhands' slovenly stewardship of these halls.
'I will permit the investigation to continue, but I am very skeptical and disappointed in Dorollas's judgement.'

Elrond's Errand

Bestowal dialogue

Dwarf version

'Here we are, as Dwalin bid, standing amongst this party of Elves who arrived when we did. But now what? Who should we talk to?
'That fellow over there, the dark-haired one, looks to be the leader of this company. Dwalin sent us to find out why they are here, and if we may be of any assistance to them.
'You are the more courteous dwarf, <name>. Go on -- speak to that tall fellow! Do you think he speaks the Common Tongue?'

Elf version

'I offer you and your company my service, good Elf! I am here on an errand from Dwalin, leader of our own travelling party; it seems that we have arrived at the same time.
'Dwalin wishes to understand the circumstances of this coincidental visit, and if we dwarves may be of any assistance to you here!
'We have come to investigate the long silence since Gormr Doursmith became steward of this Hall in Thorin's abscence. Why have the sons of Elrond ventured hither?'

Background

A party of Longbeards and a party of Elves have returned to Thorin's Hall after a long absence from both. Nos Grimsong of the dwarves has come to offer his aid to the Elves and to find out why they have returned at this time.

Objective 1

Elladan, a son of Elrond Halfelven, stands not far from Nos Grimsong.
You should speak with Elladan to learn on what errand the Elves of Rivendell have ventured so far into Ered Luin.
Nos Grimsong: 'Please speak with that tall Elf on Dwalin's behalf! He stands just there, beneath that gate facing the ruins.'
Dwarf Version
Elladan: 'Hail, friend dwarf. I was not aware that Dwalin, a former guest of my father's, had come hither as well.
'Perhaps our two quests are not unrelated! I and my brother Elrohir have come to investigate a dream my father had. Evil stirs, or it will if we are too late.
'You have been to this area more recently than we; it has been many long years since last these Elves were in Edhelion, their ruined home of old. Perhaps you can help us with your knowledge of these Halls.'
Elf Version
Elladan: 'So our party has come to pursue my father's strange premonition, and Dwalin's party has come to investigate another claim: Gormr Doursmith's failings as Steward of these Halls.
'I wonder if our two quests are not unrelated, <name>. What do you think?
'Well, let us begin our investigation, now that we are all here. Dwalin, though a dwarf, is a friend to Rivendell. We will lend him what help we can.'

The Elves have travelled to Edhelion to investigate Elrond's terrible premonition....

Introduction to Forestry

Bestowal dialogue

'Wood is used in many facets of our lives, but we are cautious to take only what is given to us. It is this simple truth that all foresters will learn. Wood is a necessity; without it many of the masterworks of the Elves would have never come to be. So too are hides necessary, and it is the forester who learns how to treat the hides in the proper manner as to cure them and make then suitable for the soft leather and cloth used by tailors.
