Where Skorgrím Sleeps

Bestowal dialogue

Drawf version

'You are the dwarf that discovered Skorgrím's body some years ago, are you not?
'It was the ruined cellar of Edhelion's library that you came upon, above which Skorgrím Dourhand fell to his doom after attacking my fair city.
'The mine is just down the mountainside from here. You should perhaps continue your search where it started, and see if his body lies preserved there still. For my part, I have no wish to look upon Skorgrím again.'

Elf version

'I have been told Skorgrím's body was discovered by Thorin's folk back when he inhabited this land, before his death.
'The dwarf-miners dug into the mountain and exposed the ruined cellars of Edhelion, and that is where the corpse lay perfectly preserved -- in the Silver Deep Mine.
'When Talagan brought the library down upon them both, they fell to their grave below. You could search for Skorgrím's body where last it was seen, if you seek it still. For my part, I have no wish to look upon Skorgrím again.

Background

The body of Skorgrím was last seen several years ago by dwarf-miners in the Silver Deep Mine, where the ruined cellars of Edhelion were found for the first time since its fall.

Objective 1

  • Defeat pests as you seek Skorgrím's body (0/4)
The Silver Deep Mine is west of the ruins of Edhelion, at the bottom of the stair-path leading down the Mountain.
You should follow the stairs down and enter the Silver Deep Mine to search for Skorgrím's body once again.
Dorongúr Whitethorn: 'The Silver Deep Mine is west of here, down the stairs that lead down the mountain-side. Inside that mine was where Skorgrím's body was discovered.'

Objective 2

  • Find the site where Skorgrím's body was found
The place where Skorgrím's body was discovered deep in the mine, where the sun touches the old ruined cellars of Edhelion.
You should seek Skorgrím's body once more to ensure that it does not walk as it did in Elrond's dream.
Skorgrím's body is gone, but the same strange flower as found in Edhelion grows at the site of his long grave

Objective 3

You have found the site of Skorgrím's body, but...the body is nowhere to be found. Instead, red flowers are in its place.
You should pick up one of the fell red flowers to bring to Elladan.
The flower has a poisonous, deathly look to it....

Objective 4

  • Bring the odious red flower to Elladan
Elladan awaits your return at the Edhelion Watch.
You should return to Elladan with the flower you collected from the site of Skorgrím's grave.
Elladan: 'That is a vile, little flower, and one I have not seen before. You say it grew where Skorgrím died, and where his body lay in death for all these years? Such magic is not common with dwarves....
'His body has been moved, though we do not know where. It seems that the flowers follow him in death. Perhaps they will lead to his new grave.'

Where Skorgrím Fell

Bestowal dialogue

Dwarf version

'I will give Dorollas' theory a chance, since we are here. Merethen is not unconvinced either. We should investigate the ruins of Edhelion, the place where Skorgrím fell, to ensure that he is still dead.
'The Elves watched him die, so if Skorgrím's grave is undisturbed, then the mystery will be even greater.'

Elf version

'I will give Dorollas' theory a chance, since we are here. Merethen is not unconvinced either. We should investigate the ruins of Edhelion, the place where Skorgrím fell, to ensure that he is still dead.
'You were there to watch him die, <name> -- were you not? If Skorgrím's grave is undisturbed, then the mystery will be even greater.'

Background

If Skorgrím is indeed the source of Elrond's disturbing premonition, the site of his final deeds should be examined.

Objective 1

  • Talk to Dorniel about her memories of Edhelion
The ruins of Edhelion are north-east along the road from where Elladan stands.
You should enter the ruins of Edhelion and seek the place where Skorgrím fell.
Elladan: 'The ruins are north-east along the road from here. Seek the place where Skorgrím met his doom.'
Dorniel: 'I am lucky to be alive after the injuries I bore the day Edhelion fell. I...I do not think I have the will to go back into that place.
'It is only a shadow of its former glory now. Only pain remains.'
Dorniel was gravely hurt when Edhelion was attacked, and many others died

Objective 2

  • Talk to Naithriel about her memories of Edhelion
The ruins of Edhelion are north-east along the road from where Elladan stands.
You should enter the ruins of Edhelion and seek the place where Skorgrím fell.
Dorniel: 'You should speak with Naithriel.'
Naithriel: 'I was here when Edhelion fell. I was a healer, but my strength in mending was not enough to mend the hurts caused by Skorgrím and his Dourhand warriors.
'I cannot return here without great sadness in my heart. It was such a needless war! He sought immortality in the relics we kept here, but found only death.'
Naithriel recalls that the dwarf-lord Skorgrím sought immortality, but died instead

Objective 3

  • Talk to Dorongur about his memory of Skorgrím's death
The ruins of Edhelion are north-east along the road from where Elladan stands.
You should enter the ruins of Edhelion and seek the place where Skorgrím fell.
Naithriel: 'You should speak with Dorongúr Whitethorn.'
Dorongúr Whitethorn: 'It was across this bridge that brave Talagan brought the library's walls down upon Skorgrím and himself, thus putting an end to Skorgrím's lust for immortality. The walls smote them both as they crumbled.
'But that is a strange flower, one that I have never seen before. Is it familiar to you, <race>?'
A strange red flower grows where Skorgrím and Talagan met their doom together

The Wolves of the Ruins

Bestowal Dialogue

'Well well, if it isn't the rumour-monger! I've heard all about you, [name].
'As you can see for yourself, there aren't no brigands causing problems. It's the wolves that threaten us lately. They seem to have gathered around Bronwe's Folly, especially about the top of the ruins.
'Brackenbrook sent you to assist me, and assist me you shall. I would like you to look into this wolf problem we are having.'

Background

Strider would like you to earn the favour of Captain Brackenbrook if you can, so you find yourself offering your aid to a loyal soldier named Calder Cob.

Objective 1

  • Defeat wolves around Bronwe's Folly (0/4)
  • Search atop Bronwe's Folly for the source of the wolves
Wolves can be found near Archet, and seem to be most concentrated around Bronwe's Folly.
Calder Cob, a trusted soldier of Captain Brackenbrook, has asked you to look into Archet's wolf problem.
Calder Cob: 'It's always interesting when a stranger comes into town squawking about nonsense. Such folk don't always meet happy ends.'
There is a strange banner atop the stairs here

Objective 2

  • Use the Blackwold Banner to summon the offender (Do not leave the platform)
You found a strange banner atop the ruins at Bronwe's Folly.
You should take a closer look at this banner....
The Wolf-master approaches. You must defeat him!
Blackwold Wolf-Master says, "Heh heh...Calder Cob told me you'd be paying me a visit!"
Blackwold Wolf-Master says, "You'll be sorry for sticking your nose where it don't belong!"
You have defeated the Blackwold Wolf-master
or
You have aided in the defeat of the Blackwold Wolf-master

Objective 3

  • Ask Calder Cob why he set you up to be ambushed
Calder Cob stands at the farm just down the road from Archet.
Before you go back to Strider, you should ask him why he tried to have you ambushed by Blackwolds.
Calder Cob: 'H-how is it that you stand before me? A weakling like you defeated the Wolf-master? Bah! I would kill you myself if that fool Dirk Mudbrick weren't watching.
'No matter. I do not fear exposure. Brackenbrook will never believe you. He thinks I have served him loyally since I was but a lad, the old fool.
'Tell Brackenbrook whatever you like. But Archet WILL fall, and I'll make out with more gold than you can fathom1 And you…you will die with the rest, if you do not make yourself scarce before tonight.'

The Interrogation

Bestowal dialogue

'I cannot decide which is more dangerous right now: Calder Cob's treachery or the ignorance of Captain Brackenbrook!
'If Calder Cob is his best soldier, I know Brackenbrook will not believe that he tried to have you ambushed by a Blackwold.
'I did some asking around while you were gone, and there is a Blackwold brigand in the stocks, across the lane from here; he is being held for highway robbery. You should question him about Calder Cob.'

Background

After Calder Cob tried to have you ambushed by the Blackwolds, Strider wishes to prove beyond a doubt that he is an enemy to Archet.

Objective 1

Otto the Brigand is being held in the stocks in the Archet Jailyard, across the lane from Strider and Amdir.
You should question Otto directly about Calder Cob and the Blackwolds' treachery; Captain Brackenbrook is not ready to be convinced by your words alone.
Strider: 'Otto is a Blackwold, and he is being held in the stocks. You can find him across the lane from here, past where the hobbits are sitting. There you will find the Archet Jail.'
Otto the Brigand: 'Let me go! I'm a friend of Calder Cob's, and I'm innocent at that! This idiot jailor won't heed me.'
Otto quiets down as you tell him you know of Calder Cob's treachery.
'So you think you know the plan? Don't be smug; it's too late! By now, the gears of war be turning down in the south, and quick. Soon I'll be free, and you'll be the one in shackles…or worse.'
Otto knows that Calder Cob is involved with the Blackwolds

Objective 2

  • Talk to the jailor about Otto's foreboding words
The Archet jailor, a man named Ned Pruner, stands warily near Otto.
You should speak with Ned Pruner, for perhaps Otto had a loose tongue around his captor.
Otto the Brigand: 'I taste vengeance on the South Wind.'
Jailor Ned Pruner: 'It is good to make your acquaintance, <name>. I noticed you were questioning Otto…does that mean that his mutterings have been truthful?
'Yes, I do believe what you have come to Archet to tell. It is unprecedented, but all signs are showing that the Blackwolds mean to attack us. How is it that they have the means?
'If Brackenbrook does not believe you, you may tell him that I DO, for what it's worth.'
Ned Pruner agrees that Archet is in peril

Objective 3

Captain Brackenbrook is in the town of Archet.
You should quickly tell Captain Brackenbrook about what Otto has said to you and to Ned Pruner, his jailor.
Jailor Ned Pruner: 'You should repeat everything Otto said to Captain Brackenbrook. If any of it is true, it sounds like Archet is in for some real trouble.'
Captain Brackenbrook: 'That is a serious charge, <name>. Calder cob has been loyal to me and this town since he was a boy….'

Siege to the South

Bestowal dialogue

'Does Ned speak true of his prisoner? If so, we would be wise to investigate Otto's threat of trouble in the south. I'll not question Calder Cob's lifetime of loyalty if there is no truth to back it up.
'But if you and Ned are right in your suspicion, this will be a very bad situation for us.
'Cal Sprigley's farm is to the south of here, near the gate to the town of Combe. If aught is going on, he'll know!'

Background

Captain Brackenbrook, worried about Otto the Brigand's mention of a Blackwold attack from the south of Archet, has asked you to travel to Cal Sprigley's farm to find proof of the brigands' intentions.

Objective 1

  • Talk to Cal Sprigley to assess the Blackwold threat in the south
Cal Sprigley can be found at his farm in the southernmost part of Archet.
You should speak with Cal Sprigley to assess the reality of the Blackwold threat.
Captain Brackenbrook: 'Cal Sprigley's farm is south of here, beyond Bronwë's Folly if you follow the road towards Combe. I hope Cal can set this mess straight….'
Cal Sprigley: 'A stranger, eh? If Brackenbrook sent you, I'll take you in. I'm afraid you're the best thing that's happened to us all day!'

Remedy of the Old Kings

Bestowal dialogue

'Amdir, my poor old friend! A shadow has crept over him...the Black Rider that stabbed him is more fell than any creature you will meet in your travels!
'We have little time, and we must stretch what time we have by doing two things at once. Amdir needs medicine, [name], and quickly. Do you know of a plant called kingsfoil? It has great power to heal.
'You should ask Captain Brackenbrook if he knows of any that grows in these parts. Offer him assistance as well, if it does not take you far out of the way. We must begin to work on him, and perhaps he will look more kindly upon you after you do him a good deed.'

Background

Strider, worried for his wounded friend, has asked you to seek an herb called "Kingsfoil," which he believes will slow the poison of the evil knife that pierced Amdir.

Objective 1

Captain Brackenbrook is near The Mad Badger Inn in the village of Archet.
You should ask the Captain if he knows of any Kingsfoil plants nearby and also if he would like some assistance to earn his favour.
Strider: 'Assist Captain Brackenbrook if you are able, but it is important that kingsfoil be brought back. Many deem it useless, but it is a powerful herb with many positive uses.'
Captain Brackenbrook: 'Kingsfoil, eh? 'Tis a nice leafy plant that grows around Bronwe's Folly, a ruin south of here. Help yourself to as much as you'd like; we've no use for it.
'And as for your offer of assistance, I will take you up on it! We are always in need of able hands, and you might as well earn your keep while you stay with us.
'My best man, Calder Cob, is having trouble with wolves of late. Perhaps you could help him on his way to do your gardening job for the Ranger.'

Objective 2

Calder Cob is at a farm outside of Archet, on the way to Bronwe's Folly as you take the road south from the town. Kingsfoil can be found at Bronwe's Folly
You should speak with Calder Cob and see how you can assist him against the threat of attacking wolves before heading to the ruins to pick kingsfoil.
Captain Brackenbrook: 'Calder Cob is my best man in this town. If you help him, you shall earn your keep here. If he thinks favourably of you, I might be inclined to warm up to you, despite your choice of friends!'

Objective 3

  • Return to Strider with the kingsfoil and your strange tale
Strider is in the town of Archet, awaiting your return with leaves and news of your efforts to get Brackenbrook to trust you.
You should bring Strider the kingsfoil and inform him of Calder Cob's treacherous behaviour.
Strider: 'Danger has found you much earlier than I predicted! It sounds like Calder Cob had it in for you before you even arrived.
'How did he know of you, if he was at his post? And how did that Blackwold know you were coming?
'Thank you for the risk you took to deliver the kingsfoil. I will think upon this riddle while I prepare a salve for Amdir.'
