All's Well that Ends Well

Bestowal dialogue

'Good, you have brought the flowers I need. The evils of Man tainted this water with poison. The power of nature will make it pure once more.
'Now return this bucket to Staddle and pour its contents into the well. The water inside will retain its curative properties and drive out any remaining poison.
'Be careful. These lands are wild and home to many dangerous beasts.'

Background

Willowsong has created a curative from the flowers you brought her.

Objective 1

  • Collect the bucket
Staddle's well is north and west of the Silverwater Spring.
Willowsong told you to return the bucket of water to Staddle's well.
Willowsong: 'Bring the water to the well in Staddle.'
  • Carry the bucket of pure water to the Staddle town well
Carrying water ...

Objective 2

Longo is standing by the well in the town square of Staddle.
You did as Willowsong instructed. Tell Longo Daegmund that the well should be safe to drink from again.
Longo Daegmund: 'After all that trouble, you just pour the dirty water back into the well? I don't understand....'
Longo sniffs the well water, then takes a sip.
'The water is sweet! Lily always told me we could trust Willowsong, and it seems that she was right. I'll tell everyone the well is safe to drink from again! Thank you, <name>!'

Fresh Flowers

Bestowal dialogue

'I do not know who would do such a thing to the good folk of Staddle, but I know a remedy to cleanse the poison from their well-water.
'Bring me some handfuls of the wildflowers that grow near the Yellow Tree, south-west of the Spring. The blossoms possess a cleansing virtue that will purge the poison from the well.
'The Yellow Tree was a place of peace in times past, but now it is home to fearsome creatures. You must be courageous if you are to collect the flowers I require.'

Background

Seeking help, you brought a bucket of fouled well-water to the River-maiden of Silverwater Spring.

Objective 1

The Yellow Tree is south-west of the Silverwater Spring.
Willowsong requires some handfuls of wildflowers if she is to cleanse the well's water of poison.
Willowsong: 'Time is of the essence, <race>. Return to me when you have the flowers and not before.'

Objective 2

The Yellow Tree is south-west of the Silverwater Spring.
Willowsong requires some handfuls of wildflowers if she is to cleanse the well's water of poison.
Willowsong: 'Yes, these are just what I needed. This will take but a moment. The water was indeed poisoned, but the blossoms of these wildflowers will drive the poison away.'
Willowsong says, "These flowers should cleanse the water."

The Wise Woman

Bestowal dialogue

'There's a wise-woman named Willowsong, who dwells by the Silverwater Spring. She may know a way to clean the befouled water. Draw a bucket of water from the well and bring it to her. Perhaps she'll know what to do.
'Take the road east from the town square to the Widow Froghorn's farm, then south to Constable Bolger's house. The Silverwater Spring is south-east of there.'

Background

Lily Underhill is concerned about the report you brought her from Longo Deagmund.

Objective 1

  • Draw water from the Staddle town well
The Staddle Town Well is in Staddle town centre. To find the Silverwater Spring, take the road east from the town square to the Widow Froghorn's farm, then south to Constable Bolger's house. The Silverwater Spring is south-east of there.
Draw a bucket of water from the well and bring it to Willowsong.
Lily Underhill: 'Hurry up with that bucket…and don't spill any!'

Objective 2

The Staddle Town Well is in Staddle town centre. To find the Silverwater Spring, take the road east from the town square to the Widow Froghorn's farm, then south to Constable Bolger's house. The Silverwater Spring is south-east of there.
Draw a bucket of water from the well and bring it to Willowsong.
Willowsong says, "I cannot bear to see evil done to good folk such as the Hobbits of Staddle."

Objective 3

  • Bring the bucket of poisoned water to Willowsong
Willowsong is at Silverwater Spring.
You drew a bucket of water from the Staddle town well and brought it to Willowsong.
Willowsong: 'This water smells most foul. Tell me, <race>, why have you brought it to me?'

Unwell Water

Bestowal dialogue

'I think there is something wrong with the water in the town well, <name>! It certainly smells peculiar, that's for sure, and would explain why Gar has been feeling poorly.
'Could it be that something has gotten into the well and poisoned the water? That would be terrible, but it seems likely!
'Go and tell Lily Underhill -- we can't have people drinking from the well until we can clean the water somehow! Lily lives over yonder, east of Boggs' Farm.'

Background

Longo Daegmund is convinced that something in the Staddle town well caused Gar's illness.

Objective 1

Lily Underhill's home is east of the town square, past Boggs' Farm.
Longo Daegmund, worried about the Staddle town-well, asked you to speak with Lily Underhill.
Longo Daegmund: 'You must do something about this foul water before someone else falls ill!'
Lily Underhill: 'Longo thinks the well is poisoned? I don't know -- it seems a bit far-fetched. Perhaps he's just imagining it?
'No, no...Longo is many things, but a fool he is not. Who could have done such a terrible thing?
'I have an idea how to fix things, but I'll need your help to make the water safe to drink.'

Ailing Hound

Bestowal dialogue

'Hoy there, do you know anything about dogs? Gar here has been feeling poorly since yesterday, and he won't eat a bite. I fetched him some fresh water from the well, and he just turns away!
'Maybe you could help me? Eldo Swatmidge knows a fair bit about animals, and he might have an idea about what's wrong with Gar. He lives quite a bit east of town, almost on the edge of the Midgewater Marshes, and I don't think Gar would be up for the walk. Just take the road east out of town to the Widow Froghorn's farm, then north from there and down the hill to the east.
'Eldo is a bit of a queer sort, but he loves dogs, so he can't be that bad, right? I'd appreciate anything he could do to help Gar!'

Background

Longo Daegmund's dog Gar appears to have come down ill, and Longo is worried about him.

Objective 1

Eldo Swatmidge lives east of Staddle and north and east of Widow Froghorn's farm.
Longo Daegmund has asked you to speak with Eldo Swatmidge about his dog's illness and learn if there is some remedy he knows that may cure him.
Longo Daegmund: Eldo lives east of Staddle, almost on the edge of the Midgewater Marshes. Take the eastern path from the town square until you reach the widow Foghorn's farm, and follow the line of fences north, then down the hill to the east to Eldo's place.
'If anyone will know what's wrong with Gar, he will. I'm sure of it!'
Eldo Swatmidge: 'What? Gar is sick? Why, he came from one of my Wanetta's litters!
'My own dogs occasionally eat something that doesn't set quite right with 'em. When they do I've got a herbal remedy my grandfather taught me that helps clear it right up. I have most everything on hand, but I'll be needing fennel seeds to finish it up proper.
'Fennel grows in the Midgewater Marshes, but it's hard to find because the Neekerbreekers have a fancy for it. It might be easier to find a Neekerbreeker that still has a fennel caught in its pincers, than to find a fresh plant. Bring the seeds back to me, and I will mix up a remedy for Gar.'

Objective 2

Neekerbreekers can be found most commonly in the southern Midgewater Marshes. Eldo Swatmidge's farm is west of the Marshes and east of Staddle.
Longo Daegmund sent you to speak with Eldo Swatmidge about a cure for Gar, his dog, but Eldo is missing the fennel seeds he needs to make the remedy. Eldo tells you that the Neekerbreekers have an affinity for fennel, and it may be possible to find some caught in their pincers.
Eldo Swatmidge: 'Neekerbeekers in the Midgewater Marshes often get fennel tangled up in their pincers. If you can retrieve some seeds, I can make a remedy that should help Gar.'
Longo Daegmund: 'You're looking for fennel seeds to help Gar? Thank you, <name>, but please hurry! I can't stand to see my poor old dog feeling so down!'
Eldo Swatmidge: 'You've brought me the fennel seeds? Good, good, give them here, and I'll boil them up with the rest of this.
'There we go. Take this remedy to Gar and let him drink it. He may not much like it, but make sure he drinks it all the same. He should recover soon.'
Collected the Herbal Mixture

Objective 3

Longo Daegmund and his dog Gar are by Ferdibrand Took's waggon just west of the town square in Staddle.
Eldo has prepared an herbal remedy to cure Longo's dog Gar of the illness troubling him and told you to have the dog drink it.
Eldo Swatmidge: 'You shouldn't dawdle here. Gar needs that remedy I made for him. Go back to Staddle and give it to him.'
Longo Daegmund: 'You've brought an herbal remedy from Eldo? Quickly, give it to Gar! I do hope it helps him!'
GarGar sniffs at the herbal remedy, and then laps some of it up. He slowly drinks the rest of the mixture.
Longo looks at you expectantly.

Objective 4

Longo Daegmund is next to his dog, Gar, by Ferdibrand Took's waggon west of the town square of Staddle.
Longo is waiting expectantly to speak with you.
Longo Daegmund: 'That remedy should make him feel a lot better!
'Good boy, Gar! That'll do it! You must have eaten something that disagreed with you, that's all. Here, you can wash that remedy down with -- hey now, what's this?
'I drew this water from the town well this morning, but it sure smells odd! Is this what made Gar sick?'
