By Axe and Fire

Bestowal dialogue

'Old Gil was frightened and seemed out of sorts when he brought us the soup. We didn't pay him no mind though...we figured he was nervous from being lost and had his mind playing tricks.
'Still, he's not one given to exaggeration and if he is still on his wit's end about this, then maybe we should look into it.
'Gil came to us from the east and north, where the lake meets the woodland. Search in that area for his mysterious walking tree. Maybe you will find something. If not, then Gil can have his peace of mind back at the least.'

Background

The woods of Bree-land can be dark and mysterious. Some places are darker than others....

Objective 1

Walt Whitrose mentioned that Gil Sandheaver had come from the north and east, where the lake meets the woodlands.
Walt Whitrose believes it is worth looking into Gil Sandheaver's claim that trees were walking near Nen Harn, if for no other reason than Gil's peace of mind.
Walt Whitrose: 'It was probably nothing, but no reason not to check. Have you found anything?'

Objective 2

Walt Whitrose is at his camp on the western edge of Nen Harn.
Your discovery should be explained to Walt Whitrose at his camp, if only to warn him that such things exist out here in the northernmost parts of Bree-land.
Walt Whitrose: 'A troll of wood! Gil was right then. What queer things are happening here in Bree-land. Orcs moving through the day and night in the north, woodland animals spooked from their homes-and now walking tree-people.
'I have to admit, had I seen such a thing I don't know that I would have been as well as Gil. Go and tell him to rest easy. Tell him hat you dealt with the creature, and there is nothing more to fear.'

Objective 3

Gil Sandheaver is at the Hengstacer Farm, west of Walt Whitrose's camp at Nen Harn and north of Bree-town.
Walt Whitrose told you to take news of your victory to Gil Sandheaver, with the reassurance that he may once again walk the woods in peace.
Gil Sandheaver: 'I get chills every time I think how close I came to that thing. I'm sure glad it's gone. I'd hate to imagine what that thing could have done to me or one of my horses.
'No, I think I will take the comfort of the farm for a while before venturing back into the woods. If it is all the same to Mrs. Rosethorn, adventure like that is not truly my desire. I will leave that to folks like you.'

Snapper Soup

Bestowal dialogue

'Hello there! Are you here to help out Éogar? If you're looking for work to do around the farm, I could use your help. I need some assistance tracking down some of the ingredients for my famous snapper-soup.
'My soup is made with the meat of the snapper-turtle that lives in the lake to the east of Hengstacer. I usually send one of the hands to fetch me the meat, but they have been so busy, I would feel awful making them hunt down their dinner however slow it may be. I could also use more snapper-shells to make soup-bowls. Better not to waste anything, I always say.
'Hurry along now and fetch the snapper-shells and meat...the farmhands get awful hungry after a hard day of tending the horses, and I would hate to make them wait.'

Background

Emma Rosethorn has asked for your assistance hunting snapper-turtles for their shells and meat for her famous snapper soup.

Objective 1

Snapper-turtles can be found on the islands and along the shore of Nen Harn, to the east of the Hengstacer Farm. Emma Rosethorn is at the Hengstacer Farm, west of Nen Harn.
Emma Rosethorn asked you to bring her some snapper shells and meat for her soup.
Emma Rosethorn: 'Have you found enough snapper-shells and meat? The southern Meluinen can be found tothe north and east of the farm.'
Emma Rosethorn: 'Ah! You were able to find the shells and the meat. Wonderful! I will get started on my soup right away.'

Down the Hill

Bestowal dialogue

'With your help and the help of those Rangers...the Ranger, you came to me because of them didn't you? Well I should thank them, but now that I have my notes and focus, I want to get to the task of investigating these ruins.
'Would you be willing to make your way west down the hill to the Old Greenway Fort to tell that Andreg fellow that I am grateful for his assistance?
'You may want to make mention of the Orcs skulking about in the north too.'

Background

Oddvarr finally remembered that he requested aid prior to your arrival.

Objective 1

  • Talk to Andreg at the Greenway Fort
Andreg is at the Old Greenway Fort, west of Hengstacer.
Oddvarr has asked you to tell the Ranger Andreg that he is grateful for the Rangers' assistance and that Orcs have come down from the eastern stretches of the North Downs as well.
Andreg: 'Oddvarr? I cannot say that I recall the name or the dwarf. If you say that he is forgetful, then perhaps he meant to send you on to Saeradan.
'This other bit of news is disconcerting. We must investigate, I fear.'
