A Cause for Concern

Bestowal dialogue

'My duty to this land will not be complete until the terror that brought ruin here is ousted. Your efforts thus far have been in earnest and proved that you too desire to see the land restored and cleansed of the evil wrought hereon.
'While in the ruins, I would ask that you seek out the leader of the goblins there, Durglup. He is a particularly nasty goblin and should not be underestimated.
'You will find this creature within the confines of Dol Ringwest, to the west of Duillond. Return to me when the beast is slain.'

Background

Calengil wants you to destroy the goblin, Durglup, at Dol Ringwest. He believes this goblin is the leader of the forces there and thus responsible for the desecration of the ruins.

Objective 1

Dol Ringwest lies to the west of Duillond.
Calengil wishes to drive the evil out of the ruins of Dol Ringwest. He has asked you to make your way to the ruins and seek out the goblin's leader, Durglup.
Calengil: 'Durglup is a terribly cruel creature willing to lash out at his own brethren. He is a potent servant and needs to be destroyed.'
Defeated Durglup

Objective 2

Calengil is at Duillond, east of Dol Ringwest.
Durglup proved a challenge for which you were well prepared. He no longer taints the ruins of Dol Ringwest. You should return to Calengil at once.
Calengil: 'It is good to know that the threat posed by this creature is no more. I thank you for your efforts there.
'I will ever recall your deeds this day, <name>.'

Haunted Lands

Bestowal dialogue

I have sorry news indeed, <name>. I have discovered the source of the evil that haunts this place.
'It seems that in the years of Arnor's wars with Angmar, the Witch-king sent fell spirits to stir the bones of the dead within the mounds of the Edain. We thought this foul sorcery was performed only upon the mounds of the Barrow-downs in Cardolan, but alas we were wrong. Wights stalk our lands, and we knew it not.
'Please forgive me, <name>, but I must ask you to fight these horrible things. Try to loosen their grip on Haudh Lin, while I search for a more permanent means of ridding the land of their presence.'

Background

Glamír has found the source of the corruption of Haudh Lin -- a mound of evil wights.

Objective 1

The wights inhabit the mounds of Emyn Hoedh, east of the Grimwater.
Glamír has asked you to do battle against the mound-wights of Haudh Lin, while he searches for a way to rid the land of their presence.

Objective 2

Glamír is near the Grimwater, west of Emyn Hoedh and north-east of Gondamon.
You should speak with Glamír and discover if he has found a way to defeat the wights once and for all.
Glamír:'Ah, <name>, I fear that unlike my brothers, my task shall remain unfulfilled. In truth, there is nothing in the lore I have found to rid the world of such abominations as now call Haudh Lin their home.
'Nevertheless, I must thank you for all you have done for me and my brothers and reward you as befits a valiant warrior.'

A Deathly Task

Bestowal dialogue

'Eastern Haudh Lin is home to some ancient burial mounds of the Edain, the Men who lived here in a past age. We have received reports of evil wights stalking these barrows and mounds. Such creatures are mere corpses animated by fell spirits, not the relicts of the spirits of Men. As such, they are irredeemably evil, and it is our duty to exterminate them without compunction. I do not know why these creatures are abroad in these dark days, but I suspect some working of the Enemy.
'Be that as it may, I ask you to destroy the bodies of these evil creatures, and send their spirits back to the Shadow from whence they came.'

Background

Eastern Haudh Lin suffers from a terrible threat; dread wights stalk the ancient mounds of the Edain, animated by evil fell spirits.

Objective 1

  • Defeat wights (0/12)
Wights can be found amongst the mounds and barrows of the Edain, in eastern Haudh Lin.
Glamír has asked you to destroy the evil wights of Haudh Lin.

Objective 2

Glamír waits in the ruin south of the Grimwater within the woods of Western Haudh Lin.
You journeyed to the mounds and barrows of the Edain in Haudh Lin and defeated many wights.
Glamír:'Well done, [name]. The Enemy may rise more wights from the bones of the fallen, and when they do it will be our duty to send them back to their ancient graves.'

Glamír's Vigil

Bestowal dialogue

'As Thinglaer sent you to me, so might I ask a final favour of you. Our youngest brother has also taken this onus upon himself and likely requires aid as he has not yet returned to us. If you can help him, I would be grateful.
'Be warned that the lands of Haudh Lin to the north are considerably more dangerous than our domain, and our brother is likewise of hotter temperament, as befits his task in that place.
'I last saw him amongst the ruins near the shore of the Grimwater, a small lake north-east of the dwarf-outpost we call Gondamon. He is likely still there.'

Background

Glamir, the brother of Thinglaer and Calengil, also has need of your assistance.

Objective 1

Glamír is dwelling near some old Elf-ruins at the southern edge of the Grimwater, north-east of the dwarf-hold of Gondamon. Gondamon is reached by heading due north along the road, then taking the western fork.
Calengil sent you to speak with his youngest brother, Glamír, and lend him what aid you may.
Calengil: 'My brother Glamir will likely need your help. He dwells in some ruins to the north-east of the dwarf-hold of Gondamon, far to the north of here.'
Glamír: 'My brother Calengil sent you? I fear that both my brothers and I have sorely underestimated the depth of the defilement of these once bountiful lands. Even with your help, I am not sure we can do more than stem its growth, much less destroy it.
'Nevertheless, I am grateful to have your aid. When you have rested a bit, let us discuss what steps we can take to deal with this sorrowful blight.'

Cleansing the Ruins

Bestowal dialogue

'The draught is ready -- all that remains is for it to be sprinkled upon the grounds within the ruins of Dol Ringwest. It will encourage and speed the growth of the natural vines that one often finds in such places -- so much so that by the end of the next spring the ruins will be buried in a great mass of them. In but a short time, they will reduce the ruins to naught but rubble, returning them to pristine nature once again.
'To you I offer the honour of this task, for I find now that I cannot bring myself to destroy the place that I once loved so, even in its decrepit state. Pour the draught onto the ground beneath the two towers that remain standing amongst the ruins.
'Time and the forces of nature will do the deed with no further help from us.'

Background

Calengil has prepared his draught and has offered you the honour of cleansing Dol Ringwest. The draught will in time encourage the growth of great vines that will entwine the ruins, tearing them down and returning them to pristine nature.

Objective 1

  • Find the first tower of Dol Ringwest
  • Use the draught near the first tower
  • Find the second tower of Dol Ringwest
  • Use the draught near the second tower
Dol Ringwest is west of Duillond.
Calengil bade you pour the cleansing draught upon the ground at the base of two towers that remain standing in the ruins of Dol Ringwest.
Calengil: 'Dol Ringwest can be found to the west. Take the draught to the towers there.'
Use the Cleansing Draught here

Objective 2

Calengil is in Duillond, east of Dol Ringwest.
You should return to Calengil and inform him that your task in the ruins of Dol Ringwest is complete.
Calengil: 'Thank you, <name>. It pains me that I shall never again walk among the spires, which I remember from my youth, but better this than to leave Middle-earth with the knowledge that they are a home for creatures of darkness.'

Cleansing Draught

Bestowal dialogue

'You have decided to help me? Excellent. There is a draught I know the making of that should cleanse the taint from the ruins of Dol Ringwest. I have most of the ingredients I need, but there is one remaining herb -- a fragrant herb that grows on the shores of the river, running north to south below Duillond.
'Tis a simple matter to gather it, and I would do so myself, but the brewing is at a delicate stage right now, and I must keep a close eye upon it. Would you gather the herbs I need, <name>?'

Background

Calengil has asked you to collect some herbs for him as part of a draught he is creating to cleanse a dark taint from the ruins near Duillond.

Objective 1

The herbs can be found along the riverside beneath Duillond.
Calengil has asked you to retrieve the herbs that he needs to complete the cleansing draught.
Calengil: 'You will find that the herb grows on the shores of the river below Duillond running north to south.'

Objective 2

  • Return the herbs you collected to Calengil
Calengil is at Duillond, north of Celondim.
You should return the herbs you collected to Calengil.
Calengil: 'Ah! There, just in time. The last step of the process is to add the herbs you have collected for me. After that it simply needs to steep for a few minutes, and the draught will be complete.'

Calengil's Vigil

Bestowal dialogue

'My brother Calengil is staying at Duillond, our refuge to the north. Like me, he also strives to restore the old places to their pristine state and may need your help.
'Follow the road to the high ground above Celondim, then make your way north through a gap in the hills to reach the refuge.'

Background

Thinglaer's brother Calengil also seeks to restore the ancient Elf-ruins within Ered Luin and requires your aid.

Objective 1

Calengil can be found in the Elf-refuge of Duillond to the north.
Thinglaer has asked you to seek out his brother Calengil and lend him what aid you may.
Thinglaer: 'My brother Calengil resides in Duillond to the north. He could use your aid with his own tasks, I believe.'
Calengil: 'So, Thinglaer has succeeded in driving the darkness back from Tham Gelair with your aid? I too have such a task before me -- but, alas, I have no trinket from Rivendell to aid me.
'I do know much of the herbs of these lands however and can mix a draught that should serve to purify the nearby ruins -- will you lend me your aid in this endeavour?'

Hallowed Ground

Bestowal dialogue

'This is a beautiful land, is it not? I wandered it often in my youth -- but places that were once fair have long since fallen into decay. Some of the older ruins have even become habitations for foul creatures that gnaw at the edges of our lands.
'My brothers and I have set to ourselves the task of cleansing a few of these places before we leave. To this end, I have in my possession a token given to me by Elrond Halfelven long ago. It is imbued with a light that creatures of evil find painful to bear.
'The ruins of Tham Gelair west of Celondim have become infested with foul creatures. If you could slay any you find within, and then place this token there, its light should keep them from slinking back in the night.'

Background

Thinglaer, an Elf lingering at Celondim, seeks to restore a few of the old Elven places before he departs for the Grey Havens.

Objective 1

Tham Gelair lies to the west of Celondim.
Thinglaer has asked you to go to the ruins of Tham Gelair and slay some of the foul creatures there.
Thinglaer: 'You must purge the fell beasts from the land.'

Objective 2

Tham Gelair is west of Celondim.
Thinglaer has asked you to place his token within the Elf-ruins west of Celondim.
Token placed

Objective 3

Thinglaer is at Celondim, east of Tham Gelair.
You should return to Thinglaer and let him know that you have done as he asked.
Thinglaer: 'Your news gladdens my heart, <name>, and I am eager to walk among the ruins as I once did, with the sky over my head and the sun on my face. The cool shadows cast by the walls will no longer be a reminder of the Shadow in the East, but of respite and restoration.'
