The Hideout

Bestowal dialogue

'Ye've done all that was asked of ye, and done a good job o' it too, so I suppose it's time to show ye where to find Skunkwood. He's second under Éogan, one o' the strange men that I mentioned. Skunkwood handed the Blackwolds over to them a short time ago, that's when bad changes started taking place around here.
'Skunkwood's used me, and a lot o' other good folk here in Combe. Everything ye've seen so far in the Chetwood should prove that to you. We've risked a lot to have a chance to stop the Blackwolds once and for all, <name>. It is time we finish this.
'The hideout is located at the foot of the Staddle Falls at the north-west end of Staddle Pond. You'll be welcomed inside. Maybe you'd best go talk to that fellow what you're working for first though.'

Background

Ellie Cutleaf has arranged a meeting with Skunkwood and offered to lead you to the Blackwold's hideout.

Objective 1

Toradan is in his room up the stairs across the common room in The Comb and Wattle Inn, south-east of Ellie Cutleaf's house.
Ellie provided you with directions to the Blackwold hideout and assured you that you would be welcomed within. She also mentioned that Éogan and Skunkwood discussed the recent capture of Amdir. She suggested you speak with Toradan before continuing to the hideout.
Ellie Cutleaf: 'What are ye doing here? Time is of the essence…Skunkwood is waiting, and if news of Jagger Jack reaches him before ye arrive, he might become suspicious.'
Constable Underhill: 'So, if Ellie is to be trusted, the Blackwold hideout is at the base of the cliff near the Staddle Falls, south of the Combe guard-house! You should take this news to Toradan!'
Toradan: 'You have returned and with news of the Blackwold leaders. You have done well. Now is the time to move against Skunkwood and Éogan.
'You should make your way to this hideout of theirs and speak to Skunkwood. Once there, tell him that you heard rumour about the prisoner they took from Archet and would like to see if the tales about him are true.
'Once you make your way to Amdir, free him and make your escape. I will follow you to the hideout and aid you. Hurry now!'

Objective 2

The entrance to the Blackwolds' hideout is next to the bottom of Staddle Falls, at the north-east end of the Staddle Pond, south of the guard-house.
Toradan told you to enter the Blackwolds' hideout and speak to Skunkwood. Once you learn the location of Amdir, you are to free him and help him escape.
Toradan: 'Hurry to the Blackwolds' hideout, <name>. You need to find Amdir and release him. I will follow after!'
Constable Underhill: 'Toradan's plan is a bold one, but it might succeed. You should make your way to the Blackwold's hideout and see if you cna find were they are holding your frend Amdir. I'd be quick about it too!'

Objective 3

Constable Underhill is in Combe centre, near The Comb and Wattle Inn.
Toradan's plan to free Amdir came to a shocking end, as Amdir was driven insane by his morgul-wound and slew Toradan. Amdir now seems bent on destroying all the Rangers. Constable Underhill must know of this development.
Constable Underhill: 'Toradan...slain by Amdir? How is that possible?
'Seek out Constable Tanglerush immediately. If Toradan's warning does not reach his kin, who is to know what devilry will ensue.
'Quickly now!'

The Errant Coinpurse

Bestowal dialogue

'While I was trying to sell some of my wares to the farms east of Staddle, a bear got into my waggon here and made off with my pack! I expect it probably dragged it out to eat my lunch.
'The problem is that my coinpurse was in that pack, which means I can't buy pipe-weed to trade to Burl. Worse, if I don't get it back within the next fifteen minutes, I am sure to miss out on the good prices of pipe-weed down in Staddle!
'You've got to find the bear that stole my pack and bring it back to me in the next fifteen minutes, <name>!'

Background

Lolo wants to resume Burl Beeman's profitable trade between Combe and Staddle, but a Neekerbreeker ran off with his pack and the coinpurse therein.

Objective 1

The Midgewater Marshes are east of Staddle. Lolo Wendingway is on the road between Combe and Staddle.
The Neekerbreeker that made off with Lolo Wendingway's pack dragged it into the Midgewater Marshes. You need to bring Lolo's pack back to him within a half an hour; otherwise, he will miss the good prices on Staddle pipe-weed.
Lolo Wendingway: 'The bear that stole my pack is sure to be in the valley east of here. You'll need to hurry if I'm to get the best deals on pipe-weed!'
Collected Lolo Wendingway's pack
Lolo Wendingway: 'My pack! You found it, and with time to spar too! Take this as a token of my thanks, <name>.'

Stolen Pipe-weed

Bestowal dialogue

'The Blackwolds have established a camp at Ost Baranor, south and slightly west of here. I suspect they sneak out every night to steal pipe-weed and produce.
'They are probably keeping Himloc's pipe-weed in a barrel somewhere within the ruins. If you can retrieve that barrel and bring it to Himloc, perhaps you will spare me another one of his letters!
'Good luck, <name>. I do not relish the idea of more correspondence with an angry Grouse!'

Background

Constable Bolger wants to avoid receiving more letters from Himloc Grouse and is determined to stop the thefts from Himloc's fields.

Objective 1

  • Collect the stolen pipe-weed
Himloc's stolen pipe-weed should be in the brigand-occupied Yellow Tree Ruins, south and slightly to the east of Constable Bolger's house.
Constable Bolger has asked you to recover Himloc's pipe-weed from the brigands.
Constable Bolger: 'The ruins where the Blackwolds will have Himloc's pipe-weed are to the south of here, near the Yellow Tree. you can't miss them.'
Himloc Grouse: 'The brigands have my stolen pipe-weed in the ruins south of the Yellow Tree? If you cna get it back, I'd really appreciate it, <name>!'

Objective 2

Himloc Grouse is in the town square of Staddle.
You recovered Himloc's pipe-weed from the Blackwold brigands, as Constable Bolger asked of you. You should return it to Himloc as soon as possible.
Constable Bolger: 'You recovered the barrel of stolen pipe-weed from the brigands! Quickly, bring that to Himloc Grouse in Staddle! I can almost hear him starting to write a letter of complaint!'
Himloc Grouse: 'This is my pipe-weed? Thank you very much, <name>! I knew those good-for-nothing Blackwold villains were trying to make off with my prized crop! At least I have these plants back, but...what if they come back and try to steal the rest of it?'

Message for the Constable

Bestowal dialogue

'I've noticed my pipe-weed field is rather less robust than it should be. At first I suspected animals had gotten at it -- we have had some troubles with wolves ranging too near the town recently -- but I don't think that is the answer. What would wolves have to do with pipe-weed?
'I think the Blackwold brigands are to blame, <name>! Men have had a taste for pipe-weed ever since we taught them the craft, and now I fear these villains have been sneaking in after dark to pinch some of my most promising crop!
'Take this letter to Constable Bolger and ask him what he intends to do about it! You'll find him south-east of here, on the outskirts of Staddle. He must do something. These Men have gone too far!'

Background

Himloc Grouse of Staddle is convinced that the Blackwold brigands have been stealing from his pipe-weed field and wants Constable Bolger to do something about it.

Objective 1

Constable Bolger lives to the south-east of Staddle, on the outskirts of the town.
Himloc Grouse has asked you to take a letter to Constable Bolger communicating his concerns about the Blackwolds.
Himloc Grouse: 'If Constable Bolger does not do something about the brigands that keep steeling from my fields, I shall be force to complain to the Watch in Bree about his inability to help the good fold of Staddle!'
Constable Bolger: 'I don't know how many letters from Himloc I can put up with, friend. We'd better do something about the brigands that are stealing from his pipe-weed crop before I get another.'

Gammy Boggs

Bestowal dialogue

'Gammy Boggs, one of the older Hobbits here in Staddle keeps tabs on all the Hobbits on the farms east of the town centre. If you find yourself on the road east, look to the north at the second farm and you'll find Gammy looking out over the rolling pipeweed farms.
'She's always got something to say to passers-by and likely will want something done.'

Background

Watcher Redweed mentioned that one of the older Hobbits, Gammy Boggs, always bends his ear about the goings-on of the farms of Staddle east of the town centre. She might know a thing or two that needs doing out near the farms.

Objective 1

Gammy Boggs lives on the second farm north of the road east from the centre of Staddle.
Constable Redweed suggested that you speak with Gammy Boggs, if you wish to know more about what is going on in Staddle.
Gammy Boggs: 'Redweed is such a good constable, always has a moment for Gammy, he does. I've been here since I was a little hobbit, through my tweens and on now into my older years. Seen a good crop of hobbit grown, and seen more wander into the hill overlooking Bree or down on to the Buckland or the Shire.
'Staddle is my home and I shall not leave any time. I know all the hobbits here, who has the long hair, curly hair, even the little blond Hobbit--"how curious," I said, when I seen him!
'Listen to me, prattling on.'

Friendships Renewed

Bestowal dialogue

'Now that the people of Archet have stood up against the Blackwold brigands and we've got them on the run here, the tides are turning. Things are returning to normal, and I say it's time I did my part!
'I used to send honey down to Staddle in trade for pipe-weed, a business I'm ready to pick up again. My old trading partner, a hobbit by the name of Lolo Wendingway, used to peddle wares on the road between here and Staddle, to the south. When the Blackwolds came, I'll wager he holed up down there.
'If you happen to be in Staddle and see Lolo, please let him know I would like to renew our partnership!'

Background

Now that the Blackwold brigands have been routed, Burl Beeman wants to seize the opportunity to resume his trade with the village of Staddle.

Objective 1

Lolo Wendingway can likely be found in Staddle, south of Combe.
Beeman has asked you to inform his former trade partner, a hobbit named Lolo Wendingway, that he would like to resume their business.
Burl Beeman: 'Lolo used to sell his goods on the road between Combe and Staddle, to the south. I expect with all the Blackwold-business, he holed up in Staddle. You'll probably find him there.'
Lolo Wendingway: 'You say you've spoken with Burl Beeman? Oh, this is bad, very bad indeed! I had a good and profitable arrangement with Beeman -- I would purchase pipe-weed from here in Staddle, bring it to Beeman in exchange for honey, and then use the honey to satisfy my outstanding contracts in Staddle.
'But as much as I would like to renew the arrangement, I am unable to do so at the moment! Unless... maybe you could do something for me?'

Dangerous Boars

Bestowal dialogue

'The good folk of Staddle provide much of Bree-land with fresh, farm-grown food, and they have our thanks for it. Our captain in Bree has assigned my fellows and me to keep watch over this town.
'Recently, there's been an increase in the wild animals outside Staddle. If we don't do something, one of the Little Folk is bound to be attacked on his way home from the fields, and the town will be in an uproar.
'Constable Bolger reported a large number of boars by his home south-east of here. His house is due south of the Widow Froghorn's farm. If you could take care of those boars, it would help.'

Background

Constable Tanglerush is concerned about the increase in the number of wild animals seen near the borders of Staddle.

Objective 1

The boars can be found near Constable Bolger's house, south-east of Staddle, south of Widow Froghorn's farm.
Constable Tanglerush wants you to thin the boar population near Staddle before one of the hobbits is attacked.
Constable Tanglerush: 'There are many rampaging boars to the south-east, near the home of Constable Bolger. Leave the town by the east road, and when you reach the Widow Foghorn's farm, head due south until you arrive at the home of Constable Bolger.'

Objective 2

Constable Tanglerush is in the town square of Staddle.
Constable Tanglerush will be pleased to hear that you have thinned the boar population near Staddle.
Constable Tanglerush: 'I thank you for your aid, <name>. It is a great relief to me that the boar population has been thinned, and before the creatures injured any folk of Staddle, too! I thought it only a matter of time, but you have proven me wrong, and I am glad of it!'

All's Well that Ends Well

Bestowal dialogue

'Good, you have brought the flowers I need. The evils of Man tainted this water with poison. The power of nature will make it pure once more.
'Now return this bucket to Staddle and pour its contents into the well. The water inside will retain its curative properties and drive out any remaining poison.
'Be careful. These lands are wild and home to many dangerous beasts.'

Background

Willowsong has created a curative from the flowers you brought her.

Objective 1

  • Collect the bucket
Staddle's well is north and west of the Silverwater Spring.
Willowsong told you to return the bucket of water to Staddle's well.
Willowsong: 'Bring the water to the well in Staddle.'
  • Carry the bucket of pure water to the Staddle town well
Carrying water ...

Objective 2

Longo is standing by the well in the town square of Staddle.
You did as Willowsong instructed. Tell Longo Daegmund that the well should be safe to drink from again.
Longo Daegmund: 'After all that trouble, you just pour the dirty water back into the well? I don't understand....'
Longo sniffs the well water, then takes a sip.
'The water is sweet! Lily always told me we could trust Willowsong, and it seems that she was right. I'll tell everyone the well is safe to drink from again! Thank you, <name>!'

Fresh Flowers

Bestowal dialogue

'I do not know who would do such a thing to the good folk of Staddle, but I know a remedy to cleanse the poison from their well-water.
'Bring me some handfuls of the wildflowers that grow near the Yellow Tree, south-west of the Spring. The blossoms possess a cleansing virtue that will purge the poison from the well.
'The Yellow Tree was a place of peace in times past, but now it is home to fearsome creatures. You must be courageous if you are to collect the flowers I require.'

Background

Seeking help, you brought a bucket of fouled well-water to the River-maiden of Silverwater Spring.

Objective 1

The Yellow Tree is south-west of the Silverwater Spring.
Willowsong requires some handfuls of wildflowers if she is to cleanse the well's water of poison.
Willowsong: 'Time is of the essence, <race>. Return to me when you have the flowers and not before.'

Objective 2

The Yellow Tree is south-west of the Silverwater Spring.
Willowsong requires some handfuls of wildflowers if she is to cleanse the well's water of poison.
Willowsong: 'Yes, these are just what I needed. This will take but a moment. The water was indeed poisoned, but the blossoms of these wildflowers will drive the poison away.'
Willowsong says, "These flowers should cleanse the water."

The Wise Woman

Bestowal dialogue

'There's a wise-woman named Willowsong, who dwells by the Silverwater Spring. She may know a way to clean the befouled water. Draw a bucket of water from the well and bring it to her. Perhaps she'll know what to do.
'Take the road east from the town square to the Widow Froghorn's farm, then south to Constable Bolger's house. The Silverwater Spring is south-east of there.'

Background

Lily Underhill is concerned about the report you brought her from Longo Deagmund.

Objective 1

  • Draw water from the Staddle town well
The Staddle Town Well is in Staddle town centre. To find the Silverwater Spring, take the road east from the town square to the Widow Froghorn's farm, then south to Constable Bolger's house. The Silverwater Spring is south-east of there.
Draw a bucket of water from the well and bring it to Willowsong.
Lily Underhill: 'Hurry up with that bucket…and don't spill any!'

Objective 2

The Staddle Town Well is in Staddle town centre. To find the Silverwater Spring, take the road east from the town square to the Widow Froghorn's farm, then south to Constable Bolger's house. The Silverwater Spring is south-east of there.
Draw a bucket of water from the well and bring it to Willowsong.
Willowsong says, "I cannot bear to see evil done to good folk such as the Hobbits of Staddle."

Objective 3

  • Bring the bucket of poisoned water to Willowsong
Willowsong is at Silverwater Spring.
You drew a bucket of water from the Staddle town well and brought it to Willowsong.
Willowsong: 'This water smells most foul. Tell me, <race>, why have you brought it to me?'

Unwell Water

Bestowal dialogue

'I think there is something wrong with the water in the town well, <name>! It certainly smells peculiar, that's for sure, and would explain why Gar has been feeling poorly.
'Could it be that something has gotten into the well and poisoned the water? That would be terrible, but it seems likely!
'Go and tell Lily Underhill -- we can't have people drinking from the well until we can clean the water somehow! Lily lives over yonder, east of Boggs' Farm.'

Background

Longo Daegmund is convinced that something in the Staddle town well caused Gar's illness.

Objective 1

Lily Underhill's home is east of the town square, past Boggs' Farm.
Longo Daegmund, worried about the Staddle town-well, asked you to speak with Lily Underhill.
Longo Daegmund: 'You must do something about this foul water before someone else falls ill!'
Lily Underhill: 'Longo thinks the well is poisoned? I don't know -- it seems a bit far-fetched. Perhaps he's just imagining it?
'No, no...Longo is many things, but a fool he is not. Who could have done such a terrible thing?
'I have an idea how to fix things, but I'll need your help to make the water safe to drink.'

Falco's Garden

Bestowal dialogue

'I think you should speak with Falco again. Maybe those mysterious trespassers are responsible for ruining his poor garden!
'His farm is south-west of here. Quickly, return to him and tell him what you learned.
'I hope the old fool will be more helpful to you this time.'

Background

Falco's garden is failing for an unknown reason, distressing the people of Staddle.

Objective 1

Falco's farm lies south-west of Gammy Boggs' farm.
Gammy Boggs has suggested you speak with Falco Greenhand again and tell him of the mysterious trespassers that were seen near his garden.
Gammy Boggs: 'You should speak to Falco again and tell him what you've found. It could be those mysterious trespassers are responsible for ruining his beautiful garden!'
Falco Greenhand: 'Misery me, you've found me out! I made a deal with those wicked ruffians. They promised not to ruin my crops if I paid them. I did for a while, but when I stopped, they were true to their word, such as it is, and they ruined my lovely garden!
'They said their leader would be very unhappy with me if I didn't pay them, and not just that! They say he'd burn down the whole town! I heard that happened up Archet way, and now I'm worried it'll happen to Staddle too!
'I know I should have said something sooner, but I was so afraid -- this Sharkey they're trying to impress sounds fearsome. Perhaps Constable Bolger can help you stop them? Please go tell him at once! His house is south-east of here!'

Objective 2

Constable Bolger's house is located south-east of Falco Greenhand's farm.
Confronted with the truth, Falco Greenhand has confessed that he made an underhanded bargain with ruffians. He has asked you to speak with Constable Bolger and warn him that the brigands are coming to burn the town.
Falco Greenhand: 'I'm so sorry about all this! Please hurry and tell Constable Bolger…I'm sure those ruffians are on their way here!'
Gammy Boggs: 'Brigands and ruffians? Oh dear, what's old Falco gotten himself into? I'm sure he meant no harm! You'd best hurry along to Constable Bolger. His home is east of here.'
Constable Bolger: 'Old Falco has put us in a tough place, sure enough. The Blackwolds have been lurking about the Chetwood for a while now, but they seem to be getting a little bolder since this Sharkey's showed up. They've started pushing folks like Falco about. Perhaps we can put an end to that here!
'All we can do now is wait...'

Objective 3

  • Protect Constable Bolger, while repelling the brigand attack
Constable Bolger says, "Back, Ruffians! You will not get through me!"
Blackwold Knave says, "Traitor! Your life will end here!"
Blackwold Marksman says, "This does not look good!"
Constable Bolger says, "Well done! Go tell Falco he is safe!"

Objective 3

  • Talk to Falco Greenhand at his farm
Falco Greenhand's farm lies north-west of Constable Bolger's home.
You and Constable Bolger have defeated the Blackwold brigands who had planned to burn the town of Staddle. Falco will be glad that you have succeeded.
Falco Greenhand: 'The ruffians have been driven off? They won't be coming back?
'Oh, thank you! Thank you, friend! Please accept this small token of my gratitude.
'I will do my bet not to mess with Sharkey's Men again. Protecting my garden is not worth destroying my lovely town. Please, tell everyone how very, very sorry I am.'

Eyes of Staddle

Bestowal dialogue

'Maybe you can talk to some of the other Staddle-folk and see if they know anything about what is happening to Falco's garden? Someone surely knows something that might help!
'You can find them keeping watch over their own farms here in Staddle.
'We need to find out what is happening to Falco's garden since he will not tell us.'

Background

Falco's garden is failing for an unknown reason, causing distress among the people of Staddle.

Objective 1

The people of Staddle can be found tending and watching over their farms or in the centre of Staddle.
Gammy Boggs has recommended that you speak to some of the Staddle-folk to learn what happened to Falco's garden.
Gammy Boggs: 'Just speak with some of the Staddle-folk mingling about town square or on their farms. One of them might know something about Falco's garden.'
Himloc Grouse: 'So Outsiders are now taking an interest in Staddle's business? Well, I did see something a bit strange a few days back. The moon was hiding behind a cloud, so I can't be sure, but I thought I saw several shadows out by the Constable's house, south-east of town. Nott sure what that would have to do with old Falco, though.'
Ferumbras Attereeve: 'Gardens? I've trouble enough with my spiders. I can't be of any help to you.'
Longo Daegmund: 'There's nothing that I can really tell you about Falco's garden, other than I would do just about anything to know his secret. Everyone else's garden got that awful mould, except his! Most beautiful garden I'd ever laid eyes on, it was.'
Ferdibrand Took: 'I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. There are more animals around as of late, but I don't expect any of them have gotten into Falco's garden, or we'd have heard about it.'
Ethelinda Burr: 'Falco's garden? It was a special one, to be sure…seemed able to fight off that mould that showed up in the other farmers' crops. Falco always was the best gardener in Staddle. it's sad if what they say is true, and it's gone to ruin.'
Lily Underhill: 'Gammy! I wish I didn't know what I know, but I do. I promised Falco I wouldn't say anything...tell Gammy I wish I could help, but I can't.'

Objective 2

Gammy Boggs is on the second farm north of the road near the Staddle farms.
The knowledge you gained from the people of Staddle will be of great interest to Gammy Boggs, the town gossip.
Lily Underhill: 'No, no, I can't help you…you just tell Gammy that. I just can't….'
Gammy Boggs: 'You say Lily knows what's going on with Falco, but won't say anything? Why, shame on that girl!'

Concern for a Friend

Bestowal dialogue

'I'd wager Falco Greenhand is the best gardener in all of Staddle, and that's saying quite a lot. He's very proud of that garden of his, and not without reason -- it's quite a sight! Recently he hasn't been coming 'round to visit like he used to, though, and I'm a little worried about him.
'In fact, I heard that his garden is going through a rough spell, and it might not survive the season! Maybe you can find out what's going on, and put my mind at ease? Falco's farm is south-west of here.
'Falco's a good friend, and I'd hate to see him lose that garden!'

Background

Falco's garden is failing for an unknown reason, causing distress among the people of Staddle.

Objective 1

Falco Greenhand's farm lies to the south-west of Gammy Boggs' farm.
Gammy Boggs, the local town gossip, has asked you to find out why Falco's garden is failing.
Gammy Boggs: 'I'm not one to talk about friends behind their backs, but old Falco's been acting mighty quueer lately. Could you have a talk with him? His farm's to the south-west of here.'
Falco Greenhand: 'Please, leave me alone! I don't need this right now. I have too much else to worry about than some busy-body! Shoo! My problems are not yours. Go tell Gammy that she should stop nosing about!'

Objective 2

Gammy Boggs is at her farm, north-east of Falco Greenhand's farm.
Falco Greenhand did not want to trouble you with his problems and asked you to tell Gammy Boggs to stop nosing about.
Falco Greenhand: 'Please, my problems are my own. Just tell Gammy Boggs not to trouble about me.'
Gammy Boggs: 'Not trouble about him? Why I've known old Falco all my life, and I tell you there is naught he cares more about than his garden! I'm not going to stand around and do nothing!'

Athal says, "Take care, Avorthal! We will have many tales to tell when this is over!"
Avorthal says, "I am sure we will, my friend."'
Longbeard-guardian says, "A fine hit!"
Longbeard-guardian says, "Save some goblins for me!"

Gailthin says, "They are preparing a fresh attack. Be ready."
Avorthal says, "We stand with you, Gailthin!"

Longbeard-champion says, "Mathi Stouthand is in trouble! We need your aid!"
Avorthal says, "Lead the way, Master Dwarf, and we will follow!"
Mathi Stouthand says, "The goblins are regrouping! Hold them off, and I will call out their positions!"
Mathi Stouthand says, "More goblins to the left!"
Avorthal says, "Do you smell something?"
Mathi Stouthand says, "Sappers!"
Mathi Stouthand says, "Well done!"
Longbeard-champion says, "I have returned with reinforcements, Mathi!"
Mathi Stouthand says, "The day is not won yet, though. There are more goblins ahead."
Mathi Stouthand says, "You should rest a moment, though, before pressing ahead."
Avorthal says, "I think you are right. Let us rest a while."

Objective 2

  • Speak to Avorthal
Avorthal seeks Skorgrím Dourhand inside the goblin-infested vale of Rath Teraig.
Avorthal has pledged the strength of his arm to your cause and seeks revenge upon Skorgrím for the harm he has caused the peoples of Ered Luin.
Avorthal: 'I feel rested enough to continue. Let us continue our search for Skorgrím Dourhand.'
  • Aid Avorthal
Avorthal says, "Wait... something is not right here...."
Avorthal says, "Goblins, on the cliff above us! Hurry, follow me!"
Mathi Stouthand says, "Get rid of those goblin-spearmen or we'll be done for!"
Elf-hunter says, "Avorthal! The goblins have captured a woman."
Elf-champion says, "Your father led some Elves and dwarves to rescue Sara Oakheart. He never returned."
Avorthal says, "My father is strong. Do not fear for him."
Avorthal says, "Let us rest for a moment before we proceed."

Objective 3

  • Speak to Avorthal
Avorthal seeks Skorgrím Dourhand inside the goblin-infested vale of Rath Teraig.
Avorthal has vowed to rescue Sara Oakheart, held captive by goblins within Rath Teraig, putting worries of his father's fate out of his mind.
Avorthal: 'I am ready to move on, <name>. We must find and rescue this Sara Oakheart. Once she is safe, we can continue our search for Skorgrím.
'Perhaps we will find my father up ahead and can lend him our aid, though I am sure he has little need of our blades.'
  • Aid Avorthal
Avorthal says, "This way!"
Avorthal says, "There she is! Quickly, we must save her!"
Sara Oakheart says, "Thank you, dear. I felt sure I would meet my end at the hands of those awful goblins!"
Avorthal says, "You are most welcome. You should leave this place at once!"
Avorthal says, "Now <name>, let us find Skorgrím and finish this!"
Avorthal says, "Father!"
Cardavor says, "Avorthal, no! Stay back!"
Cardavor says, "It is a trap!"

Objective 4

  • Speak to Avorthal
Skorgrím Dourhand has escaped. Avorthal is waiting to speak with you regarding the course you should take next.
Avorthal: 'Skorgrím has escaped, <name>, but I think Ered Luin will be safe from him now...at least for a time. For that, I feel the combined assault of dwarves and Elves was a success.
'It will be a long while before we know the full cost of our actions here. Many good people have fallen in Rath Teraig this day.
'I will tend to my father's wounds, and then together we can report to Langlas and tell him what has happened here today.'
Avorthal: 'We should now return to Langlas.'
